Tottenham Hotspur have taken the decision to dismiss manager Nuno Espirito Santo after the Portuguese manager has spent just four months at the helm in North london.
The decision comes following a hapless performance in their 3-0 home defeat against Manchester United on Saturday.
Tottenham have a 50% win record after ten Premier League games under Nuno, having won five and lost five, and currently sit in 8th place. Spurs are still in the EFL Cup following a 1-0 win over Burnley last week. However, a Europa League conference loss to Dutch side Vitesse was followed by back-to-back Premier League losses against West Ham and Manchester United.
Nuno’s appointment wasn’t a popular one from the get-go, with many believing him to be the 4th or 5th choice for chairman Daniel Levy. Despite some early positive results, there have been rumours of the players disliking his attitude and approach from day one.
Despite being heavily linked with the Manchester United job after their 5-0 home loss against rivals Liverpool last week, Antonio Conte is the odds-on favourite to take over from Nuno at the Tottenam Hotspiur Stadium.
He is expected to arrive in London today (November 1st) for talks with the club, who are confident a deal will be done this week.
According to Betfred, Antonio Conte is the overwhelming favourite to take over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, at odds of 1/10.
The elite Italian coach was in talks with Daniel Levy and co in the summer, however talk broke down as Conte reportedly wasn’t 100% confident in the project put infront of him.
The main reason why the bookies and the club are confident of getting Conte into Spurs’ hotseat this time around is their managing director of football, Fabio Paratici.
When Tottenham and Conte last held talks, Paratici had not yet officially been appointed. The pair have previously worked together during a successful spell at Juventus and are reportedly interested in reuniting in the English Premier League.
Conte has recent experience in the Premier League with Spurs’ cross-city rivals Chelsea. His spell in West Londn was short, but sweet. In two seasons Conte won the Premier League and the FA Cup.
Should talks break down with Antonio Conte to become the next perminant Tottenham Hotspur manager, there are a few surprise candidates thought to be next in-line for Daniel Levy and the Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy.
Spanish manager Deigo Martinez left his post with Granada at the end of last season and is still out of work. Although the second favourite with the bookies, Martinez is still a longshot at odds of 10/1 to take over.
Portuguese manager Paulo Fonesca has also had his name banded about and is currently being offered at odds of between 10/1 and 16/1 with the majority of top UK bookmakers.
However, the ex-Roma manager’s lack of Premier League experience isbeing said to have put-off the Spurs boardroom.
Fonseca has also been heavily-linked with the vacant Newcastle United job, however, odds on him taking over at St. James’ Park have lengthened considerably in recent days amid reports that Unai Emry is poised to take over the Toon.
Antonio Conte - 1/10
Deigo Maritinez - 10/1
Paulo Fonseca - 10/1
Ryan Mason - 16/1
Graham Potter - 16/1
Ruben Amorim - 20/1
Unai Emry - 25/1
Marcelo Gallardo - 25/1
Kjetil Knutsen - 25/1
Julen Lopetegui - 25/1
In total, the UK bookies are taking bets on 30 football managers to take over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
If you fancy a pie-in-the-sky punt on the next Spurs manager, you’ll find recently-dismissed Newcastle boss Steve Bruce at the bottom of the pile at odds of 100/1.
Other rank outsiders include John Terry and Andre Villas-Boas at 66/1 and Ledly King at 50/1.
