2025 has been another spectacular year for British sport. The Lionesses' inspiring Euro win, Rory McIlroy’s Masters win, securing him an emotional Grand Slam, and Luke Littler becoming the youngest ever world champion in darts history have made it one of the toughest years to predict who will take home the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
In this preview, we break down the latest BBC Sports Personality of the Year odds and provide our expert analysis.
Below are the latest odds for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2025 from Betway.
The sporting story of the year is no doubt the Lionesses retaining their Euro trophy. Serina Weigman’s team went into the tournament looking a little lost following a year of departures and change.
However, led by Chloe Kelly on the pitch, they secured their second consecutive title, defeating Spain on penalties in a dramatic finale. Kelly is rightfully the favourite with the bookies, sitting at 5/6 with Betway. It’s also worth noting she had a fantastic year at club level, playing a huge role in Arsenal’s Champions League win.
If Kelly wins, she will be the fifth consecutive woman to win the prize, and the third women’s footballer to do so in four years, following in the footsteps of Beth Mead and Mary Earps.
Her closest rival for the trophy is Rory McIlroy. McIlroy has had an exceptional year, winning The Masters in April to complete his career Grand Slam. He was also a key part of Europe’s Ryder Cup-winning team that swept aside the USA in September.
McIlroy has never won BBC Sports Personality of the Year, but does have two RTE Sports Personality of the Year awards under his belt. The bookies currently have him at 11/8. Given that the latest golf player to win was in 1989, when Nick Faldo won, and that the BBC has a fondness for the Lionesses, there’s a good chance McIlroy might have to wait a little longer to end that run.
The biggest outside challenges are Hannah Hampton, England’s goalkeeping hero from the Euros, and Lando Norris. Norris could be worth keeping an eye on if he can win the F1 title in early December. He is currently priced at 16/1, but those odds are likely to shorten significantly if he manages to do so.
Despite avenging his loss in the 2024 World Championship final and becoming the youngest world champion in darts history, Luke Little is all the way out at 25/1 with Betway. Last year’s winner, Keely Hodgkinson, is also priced at 25/1 to go back-to-back.
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year award will be held in December 2025 and will be held at Media City in Salford. You can watch the show live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
