Golfing fans, on my radar this week is the Texas Valero Open on the PGA Tour and I have two selections for you, both at good prices. My main selection is 30/1, but I have also spotted a longshot chance, at 300/1, who could be very well suited to this course. I have deliberately kept this week’s squad small, with one eye on the first Major of the season.
Yes, that’s right, next week is Masters week, with the action all set to take place at the Augusta National. I will have a full Masters selection list out as usual, but I will also have some early longshots ready for you on Thursday or Friday, so keep an eye out here for those.
It’s a tricky event to dissect at the TPC San Antonio, so why not take advantage of this free bet deal.
Simply bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. With eight places and great prices for this week’s PGA Tour, what’s not to like
The TPC San Antonio plays host to the Valero Texas Open this week, and it is a very unique type of course. Although it’s 7438 yards long, historically, this course suits those players who hit the ball slightly shorter off the tee, as the fairways get quite tight the further up they go and the rough is very difficult here too. Most PGA Tour courses have quite open fairways, but it’s a very different scenario this week and you can really benefit by keeping it on the fairway off the tee so accuracy over distance for sure. The two players I have gone for this week are both very accurate ball strikers and I think this course will suit them both very well.
My first selection for this week’s Valero is world number eight, Brian Harman. He isn’t the longest of players, but he is very accurate from tee to green and that is what I am looking for this week. He is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour who also has a Major to his name, having won the Open Championship last year.
Brian Harman is a player that always enjoys the tougher courses and it’s notable that he has already achieved two Top 10s this season on trickier tracks.
He ticks more boxes than most this week and the 30/1 on offer is plenty of value
with eight places up for grabs. I think he is going to be able to kick on from here and have another strong season.
My longshot player for this week is Jorge Campillo, who is still a maiden on the PGA Tour, but clearly has bags of class when he is playing well. And if he turns up here in good form, I think it’s quite possible that he could cause a bit of a shock this week. He won the Kenya Open on the DP World Tour, on a course where iron play dominated and the approaches are not too dissimilar from those at this week’s Texas Open.
The players that do the best around here have seriously good iron play skills, as it’s crucial to be straight off the tee. Of course, it’s a big ask for Campillo to go and win this, but at 300/1 with eight places on offer, I give him a shout at a course that could really suit his game very well.
Brian Harman @ 30/1
Jorge Campillo @ 300/1
