The Premier League manager merry-go-round for this season has already begun, as Xisco Munoz was sacked by Watford and replaced by Claudio Ranieri. At the bottom of the table, the clear relegation favourites are starting to appear.
For the first time since the 2018/19 season, the three bottom teams have yet to win a Premier League game this season after eight games. The last time that happened only one of the three teams went on to avoid relegation - Newcastle United.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, two of the current bottom three are being backed by the bookies for the drop. Yoyo boys Norwich have just two points after eight games and are the favourites for the drop, with Smarkets offering them at odds of 1/4.
Despite sitting four points outside of the bottom three and with two wins so far this season, Betfred are offering Watford for the drop at odds of 1/2. They have just had a change in personnel, though Ranieri’s reign hasn’t gotten off to a good start - a hapless 0-5 home drubbing at the hands of Liverpool.
Newcastle United are the only current bottom three sides not be hotly tipped for the drop. This is of course thanks in no small part to their recent Saudi takeover, which many believe means they will strengthen in January.
Winless Burnley are instead third favourites for the drop, at odds of 4/5 with the majority of the top UK bookmakers.
Newcastle’s Suadi takeover might have seen them tipped by most to stay up this season. However, it’s bad news manager Steve Bruce, who’s the overwhelming frontrunner for the chop at 1/20. His job is in such a perilous position, many believe he may not even be in charge come the weekend.
Interestingly, none of the managers of the teams tipped for the drop are currently being backed for the sack by STSBet, or any other UK bookmaker.
Instead, the manager deemed to be the most in danger other than Steve Bruce is still at the other end of the table. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is under massive pressure at Manchester United, following a shaky start to the season.
Manchester United sit 6th in the table, despite strengthening in the summer with a string of high profile signings including Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Because of Ole’s perilous position, Leicester City boss Brendan Rogers is also hotly tipped to leave his post at the King Power in order to replace the Norwegian at Old Trafford.
Even though he’s just in the door, Claudio Ranieri is only just behind Bruce and Ole on the chopping block, according to the UK odds setters.
