The new Premier League season is almost upon us and the race for a coveted Champions League place looks more fierce than ever. Whilst Manchester City look virtually guaranteed to remain at Europe’s top table, predicting the identities of the other sides in the top four looks an extremely tricky task.
Our Premier League top 4 tips for the season will aim to help you find some winning bets. So without further ado let’s look at the contenders.
Making a case for Manchester City to finish in fifth place or lower is virtually an impossible task. Pep Guardiola has never finished a season outside the top three, and given the strength of City’s squad, that is not going to change this year.
That being said, we are not going to recommend having a bet on Manchester City to finish in the top four. They are 1/25 to finish in a Champions League spot (as well as odds on to win the league), so there is absolutely no value in that wager.
Arsenal’s (4/9) 2022/23 season exceeded all expectations. They pushed City close for the majority of the season and thoroughly deserved their runners up spot. Declan Rice and Kai Havertz represent significant upgrades to their squad and Mikel Arteta will be confident of another title challenge. However, lack of depth still looks to be a problem for the Gunners, and a few injuries could seriously jeopardise their chances.
Manchester United (4/5) are a team reborn under Erik Ten Hag. Last season’s third place finish represented a significant leap forward following some largely underwhelming years. The performances of Summer signings Mason Mount and Andre Onana will be hugely important, but if they click, this could be another big year for United.
Newcastle United (6/4) were the surprise package last season. Replicating their fourth place finish will be a tough task, but Eddie Howe is one of the best young managers in the game. If he can add a bit more depth to his squad, the Toon could once again gatecrash the party.
Liverpool (8/15) were expected to mount a serious title challenge last season, but big dips in form from the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, saw them miss out on the top four completely. If they can replicate their form of previous years, Jurgen Klopp’s men should have enough to return to the top four.
If Liverpool’s 22/23 campaign was disappointing, then Chelsea’s (11/8) was a complete disaster. They finished 27 points outside the top four and managed just 38 goals. New manager Mauricio Pochettino has a huge task on his hands, but this is a highly talented (and expensive!) squad with plenty of potential. If Pochettino can get his men firing, a top four finish is well within their grasp.
Tottenham Hotspur’s (10/3) hopes for the season may come down to whether Harry Kane stays or goes. With their talismanic striker, it’s hard to see Spurs mounting a serious top four bid. If he stays, they cannot be discounted.
Brighton (11/2) were another surprise package last season. Despite losing some star players and manager Graham Potter, the Seagulls produced a number of eye-catching displays. New boss Roberto de Zerbi has modified their style of play and turned them into one of the most attractive sides in the league. If they can push on from last season’s 6th place finish, a push for the Champions League is not out of the question.
If last season had started after the World Cup, Aston Villa (15/2) would have cruised to a Champions League place. Unai Emery has put together a highly capable squad and the Summer additions of Pau Torres and Youri Tielemens will only improve them further. Top four is a big ask, but if some of the big hitters underachieve again, Villa could be the team to take advantage.
This is one of the hardest seasons for Premier League top four tips, but we are going to stick our necks out and go for Chelsea to join Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United in the Champions League spots.
We are willing to put last season’s disaster down to a complete aberration. Terrible managerial appointments and a massive squad overhaul led to a very disjointed side that completely failed to gel. Now that they have a top class coach and the players have had time to get to know each other, we think Chelsea can be a force again. You can get a best price of 13/8 with VBet on Chelsea making the end of season top four.Â
