Manchester City make the journey to West London to face Brentford at the G-Tech Community Stadium in a televised Premier League clash. Read our betting tips and predictions below.
Things had threatened to get sour at Brentford after a disappointing derby day collapse against Fulham, losing 3-1 at the home of their bitter rivals. This result left the Bees hovering precariously over the drop zone, with performances not inspiring confidence for the Brentford fanbase.
A 3-1 loss at Nottingham Forest opened the season, before Keith Andrews side edged out Aston Villa 1-0. The poor away form continued, losing 2-1 at Sunderland thanks to a late Wilson Isidor goal, before back-to-back West London derbies followed. A controversial 2-2 draw with Chelsea inspired confidence, before a dismal display saw them lose 3-1 at Fulham. However, Brentford were impressive in dismantling Manchester United 3-1, seeing them leapfrog the Red Devils up to 13th.
On the injury front, only Reiss Nelson and Gustavo Gomes, two fringe players, are out.
Manchester City have been an odd team in recent years. A horrific mid-season run last campaign saw the Citizens well out the title race come Christmas. A late season revival saw them rally to third - almost catching Arsenal but Pep Guardiola would've been disappointed with his sides showing - so a mini summer refresh was undertook. Tijjani Reijnders and Gianluigi Donnaruma the two stand out signings.
A 0-4 win at Wolves to open the season sparked confidence for the Citizens, but they followed this up with their annual loss to Tottenham (0-2) before letting a lead slip to lose 2-1 to Brighton. A derby day victory over Manchester United followed, before holding Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at The Emirates. Their most recent Premier League game saw them put Burnley to the sword with a 5-1 win, so City sit seventh- already five points off table toppers Liverpool.
New signings Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait Nouri remain out, while Abdukodir Khusanov, who has started the season so brightly, has a knock.
Due to Brentford not being in the Premier League for long, these two don't have the long history of some Premier League fixtures, but it has produced some remarkable contests in recent years. Across all competitions, the two clubs have faced each other 21 times, with City winning 12, Brentford seven, and just two draws recorded.
Since Brentford’s return to the top flight in 2021, the Bees have more than held their own against Pep Guardiola’s side. In fact, the West Londoners stunned the reigning champions in November 2022 at the Etihad, when Ivan Toney struck twice—including a dramatic stoppage-time winner—to seal a famous 2–1 victory.
The fixture has since become one of the more unpredictable in City’s calendar. In February 2024, Brentford again threatened an upset when Neal Maupay put them ahead, only for Phil Foden to deliver a sensational hat-trick that secured a 3–1 comeback win for the champions. Later that year, in September 2024, Brentford’s Yoane Wissa once more put his side in front before Erling Haaland’s double restored order at the Etihad.
Most recently, in January 2025, the Bees showed their resilience in West London. Trailing 2–0 after another Foden brace, Brentford roared back with goals from Yoane Wissa and Christian Nørgaard—the latter striking in stoppage time—to earn a dramatic 2–2 draw.
A lot of eyes will be on this clash in West London, with Sky Sports showing it as the late kick off. For other betting tips, click here, while here shows the best betting odds.
Best Bet: Manchester City win and BTTS - 2/1 Betano
Brentford are yet to lose at home, holding Chelsea to a draw, while beating Aston Villa and Manchester United. However, Manchester City presents their toughest test yet. Only the 1-0 win over an Aston Villa side who have started sluggishly has not seen BTTS, with this landing in 5/6.
Manchester City have seen BTTS in 3/6 - however, 2/3 away games have seen it - the exception the 0-4 win over Wolves. In what should be a topsy-turvy game, the visitors should dominate from the start, with Brentford looking to make the most of set pieces.
