Welcome back racing fans. Today, I’m bringing you a preview of the Grade 2 Coral Silviniaco Conti Chase at Kempton, which includes a runner-by-runner guide, followed by my verdict. And let it be said that I have a very strong fancy for this race.
The Jumps season is really starting to light up now that we are less than 60 days away from the 2024 Cheltenham Festival, so don’t underestimate the importance of this particular race - the result will definitely give us some more Cheltenham clues, as all of the contenders here have aspirations of running in the Ryanair Chase.
I can’t wait to see how they get on, so make sure that you’re tuned in by 14:00, which should be just in time to take a look at them in the parade ring first.
Today I have a cracking free bet offer from BetVictor – place a £5 bet, wait until it settles, and then you’ll receive another £30 in free bet credits. What better way to get in on the Kempton racing action.
We may only have five runners for this Grade 2 clash, but it is going to be a very competitive race and could shake up the Ryanair betting market too.
4 - Banbridge @ 5/2
Banbridge has everything in his favour here and I think he is a class above the rest here. He’s an eight-year-old who is in his prime, he’s fit and he’ll be ready to win first time out. He is very ground dependent, but he gets his perfect conditions here at Kempton and I think he will be very hard to beat.
1 - Edwardstone @ 5/2
Edwardstone has mostly run over 2 miles during his career and has enjoyed some success along the way, having won the Arkle and the Tingle Creek previously. He is most certainly no mug, so this step up in trip is likely an Alan King tactic for him to avoid the likes of Jonbon and El Fabiolo in the Champion Chase.
Although Edwardstone is a ten-year-old now and you might think he hasn’t got too many big days left in him, but he was sired by the awesome Kayf Tara, so don’t underestimate his class. I would genuinely love to see him run well here, but do I think he will win? Sadly, I’m not 100% convinced this time…
3 - Pic D’Orhy @ 5/2
Pic D’Orhy has been a stalwart runner for Paul Nicholls. He is a very likeable horse, who has won four out of his last five starts. His only defeat was to none less than the mighty Shishkin, so he is highly likely to go well again here.
Add to that the fact that he is a decent jumper and very straightforward, so I expect him to put on another great performance. However, he is another that will need to dig very deep to win here and I’m not entirely convinced that he has what it takes.
5 - Notlongtillmay
@ 9/2
Notlongtillmay is a horse that surprisingly goes under the radar, despite having placed at the Cheltenham Festival and finishing second to Stage Star in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. But in the same way I see Pic D’Orhy, I don’t know if he has it in him to find that something special that makes him a winner here.
2 - Janidil @ 14/1
Janidil is a horse that I actually find incredibly interesting in this race. On his best form he wouldn’t be too far away at all, and at a generous price of 14/1, I’m sorely tempted to have an EW pocket money punt on him…
