Regular readers of ours will know we’ve been fairly positive about St Kilda’s 2nd half of the season. With Ross Lyon as coach, they were never going to give up on the season despite finals being out of their reach. The club were particularly vocal about that and how the remainder of this season is being used as preparation for the next.
That was said just over 5 weeks ago and since then they’ve gone 3-2 including wins over Sydney and Essendon. Last week was definitely disappointing going down at home to Brisbane by 85 points. There will be a response to that and they are presented with an ideal opportunity to get that out of their system.
The Tigers will head over to Marvel Stadium in search of just a 3rd win of the season. They are currently 1/10 shots to take the wooden spoon and it’s hard to argue they deserve anything other than that embarrassment. They’ve thrown in far too many howlers this season and simply can’t be trusted. The question isn’t whether St Kilda beat Richmond particularly, it’s by how much.
Of their 8 wins this season, 6 have been by 1-39 pts (75%). That includes a 7 pt victory against this opponent earlier in the campaign. Richmond have lost 18 games and 10 of those have been 1-39 (56%). Based on these pure numbers, you would expect that a St Kilda 1-39 victory would be an odds-on shot.
You can imagine the pleasant surprise when finding 11/10 available on our selection at Betfair Sportsbook. That definitely qualifies as a value bet for me for Sunday’s not-so-spectacular meeting of these two non-finals playing outfits.
There is one further selection that interests me in this one and that’s the Quarter by Quarter Leader market. Largely based on the theory that Ross The Boss will have his boys fully prepared to start this one in 5th gear. There will have been some soul-searching after last week’s smacking and this crop of players won’t want another review like last week’s.
So rather than just backing St Kilda to win at 2/7, taking them to get ahead early and stay there at the much increased 5/6 makes much more appeal. This bet is another one best priced at Betfair Sportsbook and so it’s there we will lay our hard-earned down.
