The Betfred Super League is back and last season's treble winners Hull Kingston Rovers will have a massive target on their back. A lot of neutrals in 2025 thought it was good for a club like Rovers to do well and win trophies, but this season everyone, and I mean everyone, will be hoping they fail. That is something we do in the UK, any success someone has, we want to knock them down.
Hull KR will be there and thereabouts this season. I do not want to say last season was a fluke, but it will be difficult to improve on that this year. A lot of teams will take heart from what the Robins did in 2025, while Wigan will be smarting after going from winning four trophies in 2024 to not winning anything 12 months later.
St Helens have a new coach in Paul Rowley, and after last season's troubles with Salford, he will be just looking forward to winning some games again. The signings of Jackson Hastings and David Klemmer will add a lot of experience to the Saints side.
There will be three new teams in Super League this season. Toulouse will be the second French team in Super League, while York Knights have been included for the first time and Bradford Bulls are back after a long time away from the top flight.
This season's Super League is gearing up to be one of the best ever, and for the first time in a while there could be up to five teams who are genuinely capable of winning the Grand Final at Old Trafford on October 3rd.
David Kuzio is our rugby league expert and RL author here at Betting.co.uk. Below is his predictions for the upcoming season. Let's see if you agree with him.
League Leaders Winners - Leigh Leopards
Grand Final Winners - Wigan Warriors
Challenge Cup Winners - Hull FC
Man Of Steel - Harry Smith
A lot of people will disagree with me, and I am fine with that. It is a long season and a lot of things can happen with injuries and suspensions, but I feel Leigh will have their best season yet.
I have gone with the newly promoted teams to finish in the bottom three. This is not a dig at them, the step up to Super League is harsh. By the time they get to grips with the league, their season could already be over.
The next list is the latest odds when it comes to rugby league betting and who will win Super League with BetMGM.
The Steve Prescott Man of Steel award goes to the player voted the best all season. The rules have changed this season. A panel of judges used to pick the three best players form each game and give them points, the one with the most at the end of the season won the Man of Steel.
Many felt that system was flawed, so there will still be a panel of judges - Ellery Hanley, Paul Sculthorpe, James Roby, Sam Tomkins and Joe Lydon - but their votes will not be made public at all.
Jake Connor is the current holder and is seventh favourite to win the trophy this year. Bevan French is the favourite and not many will argue against that, but he is probe to missing a few weeks of the season with injuries. Mikey Lewis - who won it in 2024 - is second favourite followed by Jai Field.
Here is a list of rugby league betting odds on the Man of Steel with Betfred.
Others on request
As will be the norm in Super League this season, there will be seven games taking place every week from Thursday to Sunday. I will be doing my best to provide you with the best rugby league betting tips for the majority of the games. I will not cover every single game each week, but I will provide a weekly acca and other betting tips that you can get involved with.
Champions Hull Kingston Rovers kick off their title defence away at newly promoted York Knights in the season opener. It has been reported that Hull KR asked for an 'easier' opening round match ahead of their World Club Challenge game against Brisbane Broncos and their trip to Las Vegas.
It is inevitable that people are writing off York before a ball has been kicked. They have never been in Super League and despite having the likes of Paul Vaughan, Paul McShane, Ben Jones-Bishop, Danny Richardson and King Vuniyayawa, their list of experienced players and matchwinners is relatively short.
Hull KR have a busy few weeks ahead. They need to start well, because their game with Brisbane and trip to Las Vegas to take on Leeds Rhinos will take a lot out of them. I expect them to struggle for a few weeks following their return from America, so it is important they play well on Thursday.
The Robins will be a nearly full strength with the likes of Arthur Mourgue, Joe Burgess, Tom Davies, Peta Hiku, Oliver Gildart, Mikey Lewis, Rhyse Martin and Jez Litten all featuring.
I cannot see anything other than a big win for the Robins under the lights in York. It will be a big occasion for the Knights, and they might start strong in the opening 20 minutes, but Rovers will be too strong. I expect a win by over 20 points and I am backing Burgess, Davies, Lewis and Litten all to score tries.
Hull KR have won their last 14 meetings with York, although none of these games have ever been in Super League. York's last victory against Hull KR was a 29-12 Northern Ford Premiership home win at Huntington Stadium on 1 August, 1999. Hull KR have also won their last eight away meetings with York, with their last road defeat coming in that same August 1999 fixture.
Last 10 meetings:
York 2, Hull KR 44 (CCR3, 7/2/25)
York 22, Hull KR 64 (CCR4, 8/5/11) (at Huntington Stadium)
Hull KR 21, York 10 (NL1R13, 2/8/06)
York 18, Hull KR 51 (NL1R2, 14/4/06) (at Huntington Stadium)
Hull KR 52, York 14 (NRCR5, 19/3/06)
York 2, Hull KR 32 (NRCR1, 12/2/06) (at Huntington Stadium)
Hull KR 32, York 0 (ATCSF, 27/6/04)
Hull KR 32, York 14 (ATCR7, 23/3/03)
York 26, Hull KR 36 (ATCR1, 19/1/03) (at Huntington Stadium)
York 8, Hull KR 22 (NFPR5, 13/1/02) (at Huntington Stadium)
This clash has the potential to be the 2026 Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford - It won't be, but there is still a slight chance of it happening. St Helens are the most successful team in the Super League era - yes there was Rugby League before 1996, while Warrington have not be crowned champions since 1955.
There is an ongoing joke in rugby league about it always being Warrington's year. I do believe it will be one day, but I might be in a old folks home by then. You might tell from the tone of this preview that I am a Wigan fan and have no love for either of these two teams.
Joking aside, this should be an absolute cracker of a game. Warrington v St Helens games always are, and it is genuinely a toss up between who wins. For these two to do battle so early one means two of the big guns can feel each other out in round one. The outcome of this game will not tell you much in the grand scheme of things, but we will enjoy it nonetheless.
The Wolves have George Williams for one final season before he moves back to the NRL. He turned former club Wigan down to join the Wolves in a bid to end their championship drought. It has not happened yet, but he is determined to end on a high.
The Saints have a new coach in Paul Rowley after he left crisis club Salford at the end of last season. Time will tell whether or not he is the right fit, but he will be reunited with the likes of Jackson Hastings, Nene Macdonald and Joe Shorrocks - who he coached at Salford.
Saints have been rocked with the news that captain Matty Lees will be out injured for a few months, so a lot of pressure will be on new signing David Klemmer to add some weight in the pack.
Reluctantly, I am backing St Helens to win this one away from home. I cannot see them winning silverware, but they have the squad to go well. It will be interesting to see how Hastings takes to being back in England. He is a great player, but he cannot do it all on his ow.
I am going for an away win with Harry Robertson and Jack Welsby scoring a try at anytime and Saints to take the points with a winning margin of 1-12 points.
Last 10 meetings:
Warrington 32, St Helens 18 (SLR9, 24/4/25)
Warrington 20, St Helens 12 (CCQF, 6/4/25)
St Helens 12, Warrington 14 (SLR5, 21/3/25)
Warrington 23, St Helens 22 (aet) (SL-E, 28/9/24)
Warrington 16, St Helens 2 (SLR25, 7/9/24)
St Helens 10, Warrington 24 (SLR18, 19/7/24)
St Helens 8, Warrington 31 (CCQF, 14/4/24)
St Helens 16, Warrington 8 (SL-E, 30/9/23)
Warrington 6, St Helens 18 (SLR26, 15/9/23)
Warrington 20, St Helens 24 (SLR18, 7/7/23)
The final game of the opening weekend of Super League sees Castleford Tigers host the Wigan Warriors at The OneBore Stadium. A lot of experts have already written Wigan off this season after they failed to lift any silverware last season - the first time they have not won anything since coach Matt Peet took over in 2022.
Wigan will have spent the off-season preparing to hit the ground running. Peet is not a coach who would have been kicking his wounds, he will have worked hard ensuring his team gets better.
The Warriors have not spent big, they signed Oliver Wilson who could miss the entire season with an Achilles injury. They also brought Oliver Partington to the club from Catalans Dragons along with Dayon Sambou and Jonny Vaughan from St Helens.
Castleford Tigers are capable of upsetting a number of teams this season. Their ground is old and compact and their fans can be vicious and vocal. I cannot see them making the top six, but they will make it difficult for visiting teams.
They will make it difficult for Wigan in the opening stages of this game, but I am backing the Warriors to kick on in the second half. With Jai Field and Bevan French on the field, they can score from anywhere. I am backing both Australians to score tries, while I am backing Zach Eckersley to cross over for the opening score of the game.
Wigan have won their last 13 meetings with Castleford - seven away from home. The Tigers' last victory against the Warriors was a 16-12 home win on 7 February, 2020.
Last 10 meetings:
Wigan 62, Castleford 6 (SLR26, 12/9/25)
Castleford 20, Wigan 26 (SLR16, 28/6/25)
Castleford 8, Wigan 10 (SLR14, 14/6/24)
Wigan 36, Castleford 14 (SLR8, 19/4/24)
Castleford 6, Wigan 60 (CCQF, 14/4/24)
Castleford 4, Wigan 32 (SLR1, 17/2/24)
Wigan 48, Castleford 6 (SLR26, 15/9/23)
Castleford 0, Wigan 36 (SLR3, 3/3/23)
Castleford 12, Wigan 32 (SLR14, 4/6/22)
Wigan 32, Castleford 22 (SLR6, 17/3/22)

A lot of the focus when it comes to rugby league betting is on who will win the Super League Grand Final or the Challenge Cup, but what about the teams that will not be fighting for silverware? Bradford Bulls are back in Super League after a lengthy absence, but do they belong at the top table is the question on everyone's lips. You can get odds of 9/4 with Betfred for the Bulls to finish bottom of the Super League ladder.
