Key Points
  • Hull to beat Giants?

  • Wolves to get back to winning ways?

There will be seven Super League matches taking place this weekend as the Betfred Super League reaches Round 21. Leeds Rhinos remain top of the league and are two points clear of Wakefield Trinity and Wigan Warriors, so the race for top spot is getting very interesting.

Huddersfield Giants vs Hull FC - Thursday, July 30th - 20:00 BST

This will probably not be the best game of the weekend, but Huddersfield Giants will be looking to make it back to back wins when they take out of form Hull FC. The Giants are still bottom of the league ladder with six points, while the Black and Whites are one place and four points clear of their opponents. The Giants ended a 12-game losing streak last weekend with a win away at York Knights. Coach Jim Lenihan will be without Niall Evalds, Archie Sykes and Logan Blacker for this game, but he has added Matty Hanley, Jack Billington, Marshall Land and Tanguy Zenon to the squad. Hull FC interim coach Andy Last has made two changes to his squad that lost in the Derby to Hull Kingston Rovers. Yusuf Aydin returns to the squad after missing the Derby with head injury protocols, while Ben Johnson is also back. Will Hutchinson and Matty Laidlaw are the players who have dropped out. The Giants will be full of confidence, but Hull FC are not as bad as their recent form suggests. They just need to work on a few things and they will be OK. They started well against Hull KR before fading. I expect them to start strong against the Giants, but this time hold on to their lead and win this game by 11-15 points. I am backing Harvey Barron and Tom Briscoe to both score tries for the visitors - they have scored 13 tries to between them this season. George Flanagan has been a bright spark for the Giants in a poor season, and I expect him to score a try in a losing effort - he has seven tries in 11 appearances this campaign.

Last 10 meetings:

Hull FC 36, Huddersfield 12 (SLR14, 13/6/26)

Hull FC 14, Huddersfield 30 (SLR20, 26/7/25)

Leigh Leopards vs Wigan Warriors - Friday, July 31st - 20:00 BST

Leigh welcome Wigan to the Progress With Unity Stadium in the Battle of the Borough. The Leopards have only beaten Wigan three times in Super League, with two of them coming on home soil. The Warriors have won their last two meeting against Leigh, with Wigan claiming a comfortable 54-0 win in Round 3 earlier this season. Leigh have improved week on week on and are now in the play-off places as they sit in fifth position with 26 points thanks to 13 wins. The Warriors are four points clear of Leigh and are joint second on the league ladder alongside Wakefield Trinity. Leigh have been hit with a couple of injury concerns with Edwin Ipape and Frankie Halton missing the game due to HIA protocols and a  pectoral problem respectively. The Warriors have opted to make just one change to his 21-man squad for the short trip to Leigh. He has brought back Josh Cartwright in place of George Marsden, but it is expected that Matt Peet will stick with the same 17 that defeated St Helens last weekend. I can see this being a close affair. Leigh will have to be mindful of Bevan French. The Australian returned from a hamstring problem last weekend and was unplayable as he scored one try and assisted four others. If they can contain French, then they have a chance, if they let him play then they are in serious trouble. I am backing Wigan to win this game by 11-15 points with French, Harry Smith and Jai Field playing key roles. I am backing French and Field both to score tries at anytime, while I can see Leigh winger Josh Charnley scoring against his former club to extend his lead at the top of the overall Super League try scoring table.

Last ten meetings:

Wigan 54, Leigh 0 (SLR3, 26/2/26)

Wigan 18, Leigh 6 (SLSF, 3/10/25)

Wigan 38, Leigh 0 (SLSF, 5/10/24)

Wigan 28, Leigh 6 (SLR2, 6/8/24)

Wigan 24, Leigh 6 (SLR16, 5/7/24)

York Knights vs St Helens - Saturday, August 1st - 17:30 BST

In years gone by, this would be a very comfortable win for the Saints. Not on actual records, but Saints used to be the number one team in Super League and they would have won this game before a ball was kicked. Unfortunately for Saints fans, they are not the force they once were, and they may never be again. I am still backing them to win, but it is a 50-50 shout. Saints showed glimpses of improvement against Wigan, but they were well beaten in the end. The Knights will be fuming after blowing a great chance to beat Huddersfield Giants last weekend, crashing to a second successive defeat. The Knights have bolstered their squad with the loan signing of Matty English from Huddersfield. He goes straight into the squad for Saturday, Kieran Hudson, Will Dagger and David Nofoaluma drop out with Andy Djeukessi and Justin Sangare coming in. Saints have been rocked with the news that George Delaney will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. He joins Matty Evans and Jed Cartwright in dropping out of the squad after also picking up injuries against Wigan. The Saints are really struggling with injuries, but they still have quality with Jack Welsby, Tristan Sailor, Harry Robertson, Jackson Hastings and Alex Walmsley, and I am backing them for a 6-10 points win. I ma also going with Welsby, Jacob Douglas and Jake Davies all to score for Saints, with Jon Bennison scoring for York against his former club.
