The Brisbane Lions are storming their way into finals, they are currently on an 8-game winning streak and will be hoping to extend that record at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon. St Kilda are playing for pride and preparing for next season, it’s serving them well with 2 emphatic wins from their last couple of games.
The teams locked horns less than 2 months ago in Queensland and they played out an absolute goal-fest. The final score was Brisbane 126 (19.12) v St Kilda 106 (16.10). Indeed the Saints, who are known as a defensive and relatively low-scoring team, have managed over 100 points in 3 of their last 6.
Brisbane find themselves in 2nd position and will not want to relinquish the advantage that top 2 spot gives them come finals. They are not going to be letting up and will be keen to extend their % advantage over those trailing them in 3rd and 4th.
The Saints have to be commended - after an average campaign for the first half of the season it would have been easy to go under and not truly play out the season. That hasn’t happened though, and they’ve shown a good attitude in their approach to games, showing that Ross Lyon is still clearly a great motivator of his troops.
In terms of the Winner market for this match I don’t see any real value bet, the prices look about right. Brisbane are a best-priced 4/7 with Betfair Sportsbook, meanwhile, St Kilda are 6/4 at William Hill. If pushed I’d back the Lions to see it out but would favour the 1-39 margin at 11/10 generally.
The bet I do want to play is a bet on the number of scoring shots there will be in the contest for Brisbane. Marvel Stadium under the roof will give no adverse weather worries and it’s reasonable to assume the match will look somewhat similar to their recent encounter as teams will be largely the same.
The total for Brisbane Scoring Shots is 24.5 with the over at 10/11 with Bet365. They’ve managed to register 25 or more in 11 of their last 12 games.

The trend is your friend here and sometimes when you are presented with numbers like that you just have to play. Some may be put off by recent St Kilda games where they’ve been stingy in giving up efforts at goal.
The opposition has to be taken into account though and that’s been all-at-sea Essendon, the Eagles and Adelaide in a rain-affected encounter. Prior to that, they gave up an average of 26.6 per game including 31 against the Lions. That game is the best gauge for how this could play out and I’m committed.
