Super Bowl 55: Betting Guide and Preview

It’s one of the biggest annual sporting events in the world, and this year’s SuperBowl promises to be a matchup for the ages. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium, in a battle between the greatest NFL quarterback ever and the best quarterback of today.

Buccaneers signal caller Tom Brady is playing in his 10th SuperBowl in 19 years, whilst Chief’s star Patrick Mahomes is hoping to help his side retain the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Of course, SuperBowl 55 is much more than just Brady v Mahomes, it’s a battle between the top two sides in the NFL on the biggest stage of all. Here are three key questions ahead of the game.

1. Will Home Advantage Count?

Remarkably, the Buccaneers will be the first team to ever play a SuperBowl at their own stadium. In a normal year, this would give them a handy advantage, but this NFL season is anything but normal. For a start, only 22,000 fans will be in attendance (30% of the stadium’s capacity) and given the NFL’s ticket distribution method, the vast majority of those fans will be neutral.

What’s more, the Bucs have actually performed better on the road (9-2) than at home (5-3) this season, so it seems unlikely that Tampa will enjoy much of a home field advantage.

2. Can the KC Offense Be Stopped?

Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles did a superb job of stifling the Green Bay Packers in the Conference Championship. Performing the same trick against Kansa City is an even stiffer challenge. Mahomes can find space and execute throws that no other quarterback can make. Plus, he’s got some elite weapons in the form of Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and co.

3. Can the Bucs Be Perfect on Offense?

Brady threw three touchdown passes against the Packers, but he also threw three interceptions and was ineffective in the second half. The Chiefs have a high quality secondary that can take advantage of any errant Brady throws.

If Brady is to have a big game, he will need his offensive line to perform at a high level and his receivers to hang on to his passes. There have been notable drops recently from the likes of Chris Goodwin and Leonard Fournette. To beat the Chiefs, Tampa will need both Brady and his receivers to be at the top of their game.

Patrick Mahomes to win MVP: 1.91

If Kansas City win, it’s highly likely that Mahomes will be the best player on the pitch. The Chiefs are 1.57 to win, so take the slightly longer odds on Mahomes winning MVP.

Tampa Bay HT/Kansas City FT: 6.5

KC can take a while to get going. They were 10-0 down to the Buffalo Bills last time out, before rallying to win comfortably. The Bucs going ahead, but falling to a second half Mahomes masterclass, is a very plausible scenario.

Scotty Miller to score first TD: 34

The Bucs have plenty of offensive weapons and Scotty Miller sometimes goes under the radar. But the young receiver has lightning speed and clearly has the trust of Brady. 34 seems a very high price for a player with Miller’s attributes.
