The action takes place at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in the Uruguayan capital from 21 to 27 November. While Nuria Parrizas will go into the competition as top seed, the Spaniard will have to work hard to get the biggest share of the $115,000 in prize money. Keep reading to see who could win the 2022 Montevideo Open!

The return of WTA tennis in South America

The second edition of the Montevideo Open marks another big boost for women’s tennis in South America. It comes immediately after the Buenos Aires Open and Colina in Chila is another stop on the women's tour.

Last year’s Montevideo Open saw the French star Diane Parry beating the Hungarian player Panna Udvardy 6-3, 6-2 to win the inaugural tournament and this year is looking to be equally competitive.

Most of the best tennis bookmakers will have the Spaniard Nuria Parrizas to win on the outdoor clay courts of  the 2022 Montevideo Open. The 31-year old is currently ranked 73 in the WTA rankings and will be hoping to bounce back from recent disappointments where she dropped out of the National Bank Open and the Western and Southern Open tournaments in the first round.

Parrizas has shown that she can play exceptional tennis and she reached the third round of a Grand Slam for the first-time ever in this year’s Australian Open. This strong result was enough to get the Spaniard into the top 50 rankings. Such an impressive result followed on from a strong 2021 where she won her biggest title with an impressive victory over Olga Govortsova in the WTA 125 Swedish Open.

Beyond Parrizas, there are hopes that the Montenegrin star Danka Kovinic will continue her impressive run of form. The 27-year old put Montenegro on the world tennis map at this year’s Australian Open by becoming the nation’s first player to reach the third-round of a Grand Slam tournament.

Kovinic followed this up with an astonishing win over seventh seed Karolina Pliskova at Indian Wells and earned a credible defeat against Iga Swiatek in the third round of the French Open.

More recently the Montenegrin has managed to reach the semi-finals of the Emilia-Romagna Open and snuck inside the top 80 of the WTA rankings. This means that Kovinic will be gearing up to finish off a successful 2022 in style.

Julia Grabher is the other one of the main seeds who has a good chance of winning this year’s Montevideo Open. The 26-year old has steadily been rising up the WTA rankings to reach her current position of 84th following her maiden WTA 125 title win at Bari in September.

This saw the Austrian beating Nuria Brancaccio in straight sets and Grabher went from here to winning the final of the Open de San Sebastian in Spain. Whether she can go one step further to win the second-ever Montevideo Open remains to be seen.

Elsewhere, we can expect the Italian player Sara Errani to perform well in Uruguay to end the season in the WTA Top 100 Rankings. Plus there are hopes that rising stars such as the Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva and the Czech ace Brenda Fruhvirtova could use the Montevideo Open as a springboard to future success. Our advice is to grab one of the latest UK sportsbook promotions and settle down to enjoy another solid dose of tennis entertainment from South America.
