We have another two cracking events to get stuck into and I have tips for both the DPWT and the PGA Tour for you. I think we could be in for a good week here.
On the DP World Tour we have one of my favourite events of the year, which is the Ras Al Khaimah Championship and I am feeling really confident about my selections for this event.
Meanwhile, over on the PGA Tour we’ve got the Farmers Insurance Open, where Max Homa is back and hoping to retain his crown. However, he has become very short in the betting, so I will be taking him on.
Ladbrokes is spot on again for this week’s golf betting, with 7 places available for the DPWT and 10 places for the PGA Tour event. Better still, they also have a fantastic bet £5, get £20 in free bets offer up for grabs if you haven’t already got an account there.
This week, the DP World Tour remains in Dubai for the Ras Al Khaimah. It’s played on the fabulous Al Hamra golf course over 7410 yards, which is a par 72 and a very challenging one indeed. I really can’t wait to watch this event again.
We are without Rory McIlroy for this event, as he is taking a break after winning the Dubai Desert Creek last week. This certainly opens the door for some of the other players in the field and I have two hot betting tips for you on the strength of that.
Thriston Lawrence was a real eye-catcher for me over last season and he improved with every event he played in. He is now a fully established Tour pro, with four wins to his name and is becoming a regular at the top of the leaderboards and the betting markets too.
He is in great form at the moment and there’s a lot to recommend him here. I like his shot shape, he hits a very powerful soft fade consistently and his iron play has improved plenty too. He is starting to become quite the complete player and I think he is a great each way bet at 22/1.
Jordan Smith is a player I have had in mind for this event for several months. This course suits his game perfectly, thanks to his consistent ball striking and his flight control. In fact, everything about this place suits him and Jordan has started this year in good form too.
He finished fourth in the Dubai Invitational, where he placed for us two weeks ago, and that was another course that really suited him. Last week the course wasn’t ideal for him and he finished tied for 41st, but this week, I would be very disappointed if he wasn’t to go close in the absence of Rory McIlroy and 16/1 is great value for him here.
The Farmers Insurance Open takes place at Torrey Pines, which is an excellent golf course that has been around for years. The courses extends to just over 7765 yards and it’s a par 72, so it won’t be quite the birdie fest we are used to seeing on the PGA Tour and you’ll need a good ball striker on your side this week.
Max Homa won this event last year and I think he has a great chance again this year, but at a single-figure price, he is way too short to back here, so I’ve found you some value elsewhere in the field.
My best bet for the Farmers Insurance Open is the Australian player Min Woo Lee, who has continued to impress me more and more as his career progresses - I can see a big week from him here.
He is a supremely good ball striker and at the back end of last season his putting was incredibly impressive too, he has undoubtedly improved plenty with the flat stick.
Min Woo Lee is now up to world number 36 and I’m certain his first win on Tour won’t be far away. He is definitely one to keep on side especially in this early part of the season and I think he’s a great value each way bet here at 28/1.
