Welcome back to betting.co.uk and thank you for joining me again. I have decided to put up some selections for the evening racing at Worcester, where there is a nice card of Jumps action to look forward to.
I’m going to give you three betting tips for today. They are not the biggest priced selections, so I advise backing them as singles rather than multiples, but I think I have found you some mid-week winners here that should continue our current good run.
Today, I’ve decided to bring you one of my newest betting offers, which comes from Kwiff. If you place a £10 bet, you’ll get a £20 free surprise bet as soon as it has settled. This could be a great way to get a kickstart for the weekend, or to keep handy for Royal Ascot next week.
In the opener at Worcester, we have a competitive field which is headed by the Skelton newcomer Callisto’s King, who is the current 2/1 favourite. He is very unexposed, but needs to prove he is ready for the switch to Chasing, so you would be very much taking him on trust for his first time out. He is a likely improver, but personally I think there are too many question marks surrounding his chances.
The main danger for me is Ironhill, who runs for the Michael Scudamore team and is very much a dark horse in this race. He didn’t show too much over Hurdles, but he ran a nice race to finish second on his Chase debut which gives him hope here. That said he will still need to improve a fair bit to compete, but he comes here fresh from a break and must be respected.
The one I think takes the beating here, is the Ben Pauling-trained Mole Court, who has a great opportunity to get his head back in front running off an unchanged mark. He ran here 12 days ago on his Chase debut and left a pretty good impression to finish second, despite not being foot-perfect that day. However, that gives him plenty to build on and he is certainly open to more on his second Chase start.
Ben Pauling’s Chasers have all been showing marked improvement of late and he bagged a winner for us just last week, when Gentleman Valley flew home with an advantage of over 4 lengths. I’d very much like to see Mole Court put on a similar performance here. But, on a cautionary note, I want to make it very clear that I think Ironhill is a big danger. Michael Scudamore is also very good at finding improvement in his geldings and his runner has been heavily supported this morning.
The 6.20 is another very decent Handicap and there are plenty in here with chances. Judge Earl, running for the Bowen team, is likely to come on for his last run at Uttoxeter, where he finished a distant second following a five-month break. As an 11-year-old, he probably needed that run to get him fit, so a much-improved effort is likely to come from him this time.
However, I prefer The Boola Boss for Rebecca Curtis and Harry Cobden, who won very impressively over course and distance here on his final outing last season and is still very unexposed as a seven-year-old. His first run of the season was at Ffos Las over Hurdles where he finished back in the field, but back over Chase fences he has to be considered.
Harry Cobden in the saddle is always a bonus and I think that after his recent run, The Boola Boss could well return to the same form as his course and distance win last year, giving him an obvious chance here. He is the only runner of the day for Rebecca Curtis, I’m sure he’ll come here fit and ready to go and if that’s the case, then he poses a danger to all in this field.
In the final race of the day Nibras Gold is going to take some stopping, having won well last time out and likely to improve again. But, he is one that needs everything to go just right for him, so I’m going to take a chance on Kim Bailey’s runner, Gerard Mentor, instead.
He showed plenty of promise last season and should strip fitter for this, his second start of the season. However he will need to return to last year’s form to be competitive here. He should handle the ground well enough, based on what we saw from him at Exeter in November, where he won in really good fashion before backing it up on the softer ground at Ludlow next time out.
He’s a decent enough horse on his day and although you are having to take his return to form on trust, but if that wasn’t the case, he would be way shorter than 8/1. So, I’m going to stick my neck on the line for him in the final race of the day, but I advise you to keep your bets on the smaller side here.
