After months of speculation in the seemingly never-ending heavyweight saga, we finally have confirmation that Tyson Fury's return to the ring will see him face fellow Brit Dillian Whyte in front of a sell-out crowd at Wembley Stadium in April.
With wins over Derek Chisora (x2), Joseph Parker, and, most recently, former world champion Alexander Povetkin, Whyte has more than earned his opportunity to compete for championship gold on the big stage.
Having still never suffered defeat inside the ring as a professional it should come as no surprise that Fury has opened as a massive 1/7 favourite over his former training partner.
However, heavyweight boxing is rarely as simple as it may seem on paper, and Whyte possesses exactly the kind of power required to swing the bout in his favour. Opening as a 9/2 underdog, the bout marks the first time that Whyte has not entered the ring as the betting favourite since his loss to Anthony Joshua all the way back in 2015.
With the promotional campaign for the super fight already underway, Fury has been completely transparent regarding his plan to defeat Whyte. In an interview with Sky Sports News the lineal heavyweight champion said:
"I'm looking for the knockout. No secret, there's no point in me lying about game-plans. What I'm going to do, is I'm going to come straight to the centre of the ring, back him up and land big heavy punches on him until he's knocked out."
Fury has shown a more aggressive side to his style in his last two fights with Deontay Wilder, and may look to wear Whyte down before hunting for a finish. With that in mind, 5/1 odds on Fury to put Whyte away between rounds 10 and 12 could be a good punt. However, Whyte is not an easy opponent to put away, so 2/1 on Fury to get his hand raised by way of the judges' scorecards could be a safer bet.
Whyte meanwhile has been characterised for his explosive power and odds are as high as 50/1 for The Body Snatcher to score the upset in rounds 1 to 3.
