The most exciting prospect to emerge from the emerald isle since another Irishman completely redefined MMA following his UFC debut nearly a decade ago, Ian Garry will make his Octagon bow in the prelims on Saturday night, but make no mistake Garry is not one to be missed.
Aptly nicknamed The Future, Garry has wowed European audiences with his performances in the Cage Warriors promotion, going a perfect 7-0 in the same organisation that UFC legends, Dan Hardy, Michael Bisping, and Conor McGregor himself cut their teeth in in years past.
Garry's most recent performance saw him conclusively defeat current Bellator welterweight and British MMA staple Jack Grant in assured fashion, securing a well-deserved UFC contract in the process.
Looking to upset the surging Garry is three-time Contender Series alum Jordan Williams. Williams has yet to hit the ground running in the Octagon, most recently being defeated by Mickey Gall by way of first-round submission.
As a result, many are seeing this matchup as an opportunity for Garry to really make a statement to a largely unfamiliar audience. With that in mind, expect the Irishman to waste no time in showcasing his talents at UFC 268 and announce himself as one to watch in the ultra-competitive welterweight division.
The UFC lightweight division has long been considered home to some of the promotion's top talent, with the fact that this fight does not have a title on the line serving as evidence in its own right.
Both Gaethje and Chandler cemented their status as elite fighters before even stepping foot in the world-famous Octagon. Gaethje reigned as the World Series of Fighting's Lightweight Champion between 2014 and 2016, defending the belt five times in the process and stopping every opponent that challenged for the belt before signing with the UFC in 2017.
Chandler meanwhile was one of the longest-serving stars of Bellator MMA, capturing the promotion's 155lbs belt on three separate occasions before finally making his way to the UFC earlier this year.
In addition to their decorated backgrounds in collegiate wrestling and successes outside of the UFC, Chandler and Gaethje also share a love of going straight on the offensive from the moment the opening bell sounds. With a combined 16 first-round knockouts between them, expect both fighters to look to finish the fight in a devastating fashion as soon as possible.
With an advantage in UFC experience, and a stronger ability to withstand punishment, we expect that Gaethje will likely have a better chance of getting his hand raised, but either way, this one is ending quickly.
A rivalry that is heated even by the particularly high standards of mixed martial arts, there is absolutely no love lost between welterweight standouts Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington as the Nigerian Nightmare looks to put the feud to bed with a win in Saturday's main event.
When the pair first met with UFC gold on the line back in December of 2019 Usman emerged victorious with a fifth-round stoppage in a back and forth battle that more than lived up to the hype that surrounded it.
Since then Usman has cemented himself as one of the great champions in the welterweight division's esteemed history by adding devastating knockout power to compliment his elite-level wrestling with a knockout over former training partner Gilbert Burns and a pair of wins over veteran contender Jorge Masvidal.
So, with that in mind, why are we recommending a punt on the underdog Covington when the pair meet again in the Octagon at UFC 268?
Well, despite being less active than the champion since their first meeting, in his lone UFC appearance since losing to Usman, Covington demonstrated that he is still capable of putting on a pace inside the Octagon that few fighters can match.
Since the lengthy reign of Joanna Jedrzejczyk (try doing that without spell check) Women's Strawweight has been the number one female division in all of MMA in terms of pure talent.
So, it seems fitting that the only two women to have defeated Joanna Champion in the UFC at 115lbs are now both attempting to assert dominance over the division.
Zhang in particular looked absolutely unstoppable during her ascent up the ranks, going 5-0 in the UFC and capturing and defending the coveted title in the process before her first meeting with Namajunas back in April.
Coming off the back of Zhang's back-and-forth war with Jedrzejczyk, many expected the champion's defence against Rose at UFC 261 to be an equally competitive affair.
Just 78 seconds into the first round, Thug Rose would become the first woman in UFC history to recapture championship gold by dropping Zhang with a head kick and forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Zhang immediately protested the referee's stoppage and will no doubt enter Saturday's co-main event on a mission for revenge. Lightning likely will not strike twice though, so expect both fighters to engage in a war spanning all 25 minutes, with Rose's technical striking and expert grappling proving enough to be declared victorious via the judges' scorecards.
