Wales and Denmark will meet in the first round of 16 tie of Euro 2020, as the Welsh look to make it to back-to-back quarter-finals at the European Championships. In this Wales v Denmark Euro 2020 preview, we will group together the best odds, our tips and where to watch the game this weekend.
Wales, despite only getting out of the group with four points, did so in relatively comfortable fashion by scoring three goals and letting in just two. Robert Page’s men did lose to Italy last time out and were held to a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in their opening fixture.
However, when they beat Turkey 2-0, Wales looked confident throughout, created an abundance of chances, and most importantly, Gareth Bale was seemingly back to his best. The Real Madrid forward assisted two goals that day, both of which were executed exceptionally well.
Aaron Ramsey also scored against Turkey and his form along with the form of Kieffer Moore, has caused troubles throughout for any opponent, and if the Welsh are to get through here, you we these two must turn up. With that said, according to the bookies, Wales’ Euro 2020 winner odds are the third-lowest at 80/1 - not favourable for the Dragons.
Denmark’s tournament so far has been a rollercoaster. After coming back from Christian Eriksen’s collapse in the first game against Finland, Denmark finished second in Group B thanks to an impressive performance in their final group-stage game against Russia.
The Dane’s took the lead through Mikkel Damsgaard that day and made it 2-0 with a Yussuf Poulsen goal, before Artem Dzuyba scored from the spot for the Russians. Andreas Christensen scored one of the goals of the tournament soon after, giving Denmark their needed two-goal advantage. Joakim Maehle sealed the deal for Denmark and ensured the nation would finish as the second-placed Group B side to set up a tie with Wales.
Denmark also looked impressive in their game against Belgium, despite losing 2-1. The Dane’s may have lost, but throughout the fixture, until the arrival of Kevin De Bruyne, they competed with the FIFA No.1 ranked side. They even went 1-0 up inside two minutes - definitely a positive for the Danish side.
When Betting on Euro 2020, Wales have rarely gone in as the favourites and they were backed to finish third in their group by many. However, their second-placed finish gives them a little more credit here, but they are still underdogs to beat Denmark with a 17/4 price with 888sport.
Denmark are the clear favourites at 4/5 with 888sport and for there to be over 2.5 goals in the game, the odds are 29/20, despite Denmark witnessing nine goals in their group games.
A draw would see extra time take place, and for the game to be level at 90 minutes, the odds are 23/10, but Denmark at 2/5 to qualify and Wales 7/5.
In the Euro 2020 betting odds, we’ve decided to tip Denmark to win with both teams to score at 15/4 with 888sport. Denmark have been extremely topsy-turvy in these finals and despite only winning one game, they did so in such convincing style that we think they may just edge the Welsh.
However, despite Denmark’s slight superiority across the field, Wales do still have Bale and remain one of the quickest teams on the break with Daniel James on the left. The Manchester United man has shown glimpses of brilliance so far, and we think this could hurt Denmark on the attack.
We do still expect Kasper Hjulmand's men to get the job done, however, and we’re backing both teams to score and Denmark to win here.
All Euro 2020 matches in the UK are televised on BBC or ITV and are completely free to watch. The streaming services of the two are also available to watch the game online if you can’t get in front of the TV.
The BBC will be showing this one, with coverage starting at 16:00 and the game kicking off at 17:00 in what will be Euro 2020’s first knockout game. S4C are also showing the game in Wales.
Wales and Denmark will play out one of the closest games of the Euro 2020 round of 16 ties as there really isn’t much separating them.
