Having completed his trilogy last month by knocking out rival Deontay Wilder, the Gypsy King has said that he is keen to get back in the ring as soon as possible.
According to promoter Ben Shalom Fury is keen on a fight in early 2022, most likely February or March time.
There is no opponent set in stone, but Dillian Whyte has emerged as the favourite, despite not officially being confirmed as the mandatory challenger.
Tyson will most likely have at least one fight in the UK in 2022 according to his US promoter.
Tyson Fury finally put the Deontay Wilder trilogy to bed when he knocked out the American brawler on October 9 in Las Vegas.
It was the third consecutive fight between the pair and finally settled the rivalry in Fury’s favour. The first fight ended in a draw, with the second ending in a knockout win for Fury - a feat he repeated last month.
Attention has now turned to who Fury will face next in early 2022.
Before Deontay Wilder cashed in on his right to another rematch with Fury, the boxing world had high hopes on staging an all-British undisputed heavyweight title fight in either Manchester or London between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
However, Joshua instead faced Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September. The fight ended in a comfortable decision for Usyk, who upset the apple cart to claim the IBF, WBA and WBO belts off of AJ.
An all-British fight between Fury and Joshua is still technically possible as things stand, however, the sting would be taken away from it were they to fight without both men having heavyweight title belts to put on the line.
A rematch between Joshua and Usyk is as good as confirmed and seems to be in the pipeline to take place in the Spring of 2022.
Once confirmed, this will rule out Joshua and Usyk for Fury’s next fight, but Fury could very well end up facing the winner of that fight in an undisputed heavyweight title fight later on in 2022.
Fury was reportedly keen on facing Usyk for his next fight, however, Joshua has activated his rematch clause and so won’t step aside to allow that to happen.
That would therefore make WBC interim champion, Dillian Whyte the most logical next opponent for Fury in February March 2022. However, Dillian Whyte has a legal dispute with the WBC that is still ongoing, meaning he has not yet been confirmed as the mandatory challenger for Fury’s WBC belt.
Joe Joyce has thrown his name into the hat amid the continued reports that Whyte isn’t Fury’s mandatory challenger.
The 36-year-old London-born fighter has said publicly that he would accept the invitation were he to be offered a WBC heavyweight title fight with Fury in early 2022.
Fury also hasn’t ruled out facing Joyce either of the two fighters and has emphasised the fact that he will fight in February or March 2022, regardless of who the opponent is.
Speaking to the Independent, Fury said that he “Doesn’t give a damn” who is next opponent is, before adding in true Fury style “I just don’t give a damn because the outcome will always be the same. I will win, and I will knock the motherf***** out, because that’s how I do it now.”
