I have to start by saying that Tuesday was a little bit of an unfortunate day. Our first runner, Makeen, was a non-runner and then Presenting Pete fell at the last, just as he made his challenge. But that is Jumps racing for you and these things happen, so letās just move on.
I have two selections for Wednesday, both running at Newbury and I am hoping they will get us back to winning ways after a really unlucky start to this week. My first pick is a real dark horse and Iāve gone a long way back in the form book to find this angle, but hopefully heāll get us off to a good start. My NAP selection runs in the final race at Newbury tomorrow and that one is a definite improver in my eyes.
To help you along the way, I always like to find a free bet offer that might have some appeal and today is no different. This time around, I have an offer from Betfred. If you bet Ā£10, youāll get Ā£40 in free bets. It only takes a few minutes to sign up and you get those all-important free bets as soon as your initial bet has settled.
Iām quite excited about my selection for this race and I'm going to take a bit of a chance here, but Iām sure itās one thatās worth taking. That said, there are several runners in this race with really nice profiles, so Iāll run through a couple of those first, to give you some perspective on my winning pick.
Initially, my eye was immediately drawn to Hydration, running for the Roger Charlton team. He was a little slowly away last time out and showed a little bit of inexperience in his running, but stayed on well at the business end. Heās sure to improve for that run, which was just his second start of the season. However, my gut feeling says that he needs a longer trip than 6f.
Another lovely gelding running here is Tajdif, who was sired by Invincible Spirit. He went well on his debut over 7f, where he was a close-up fourth and he has also been highly-tried in his last two starts, again running well for a long way in both, showing clearly that he has some ability. However, he is another where the drop back to 6f might not be totally ideal, making him a little hard to trust, despite his potential.
Those thoughts led me to the point where I decided that Iām going to take a chance on the Richard Hannon-trained Land Of Summer. She started her career with some strong potential and won on her debut at Brighton over 51/2f. She went so close to backing that performance up on her second start, where she went down by just a nose at Kempton, in a very fast race.
On just her third start, she ran in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, finishing just seven lengths behind Mawj and Meditate. Now thatās franked form and far superior to that of any rivals she might encounter in this race. Since that attempt, she has been tried over various distances up to a mile, but none have proven ideal for this filly. A return to anywhere near her original sprint form will see her go very close here and her price tag makes it a no-brainer for me.
This is the final race on the Newbury card for Wednesday and itās a really decent-looking Handicap, with plenty of improvers in the line-up.
Current favourite, Nader King, is running off top weight for Sir Michael Stoute and Jim Crowley has been booked for the ride. He made all to win at Nottingham last time out, but only just held on and Iām not sure what level of improvement he has left, but he should go well again.
Ashtanga is the third favourite and she is entitled to improve, but she really struggled to see out the trip in the Cheshire Oaks. So, from my perspective, she has a fair bit to prove based on that effort, despite being well treated by the Handicapper tomorrow.
The one Iām going to side with is Intricacy, who is also my Wednesday NAP selection. He has been very eye-catching to date, although it must be said that he is rather highly-strung. However, that fact can easily be accounted for due to the fact that he is still a colt.
Despite any behavioural issues, he has shown clear signs of ability in his three runs to date and to my eye, would have won last time out if he hadnāt started to hang left coming down the final furlong or so. He is definitely going to improve for that experience and hopefully finish on a straighter line too. Bearing in mind that this is only his second start of the season and the trip is no issue, so any improvement here puts him ahead of his Handicap mark. I personally think heāll take some beating tomorrow.
Itās always fun using free bets, as itās a no-risk option that can help you to beat the bookies! So, even if you are already a Betfred customer, then why not try out some of the other offers here on Betting.co.uk, there are loads to choose from.
So there you go, my two best bets for Wednesday, both running at Newbury. I may still find a few more selections for tomorrow, but they will be posted over in my group chat, so youāll need to join up to take advantage! Also, my weekly golf selections are coming soon, so don't forget to stick around to make sure you get them before the off on Thursday.
