Founded in 1896 as Old Bracknell Wanderers, Bracknell Town Football Club has grown from humble local beginnings into one of Berkshire’s most ambitious sides. Renamed Bracknell Town in 1962, the club enjoyed early success in the Surrey Senior League, winning both the league and cup in 1969/70 before climbing through the ranks of non-league football.
The 1980s brought further triumph, including promotion to the Isthmian League Division One, but the following decade saw a decline and eventual relegation. The club’s modern resurgence began in 2016, when chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse oversaw a major redevelopment of Larges Lane, installing a state-of-the-art 3G pitch and new facilities that revitalised both the senior and youth setups.
Promotion soon followed in 2018, and by 2022, Bracknell had reached Step 3 for the first time in their history. That season also brought a famous FA Cup First Round tie against Ipswich Town and a near miss in the Southern Premier play-offs.
Now based at Bottom Meadow, Sandhurst, Bracknell Town continues to evolve. After a turbulent 2024/25 campaign in which the Robins narrowly avoided relegation on goal difference, the club turned to Matthew Saunders, appointed manager ahead of the new season.
However, with the side rooted at the foot of the table and constant criticism from those outside the club, Saunders resigned after just six weeks in charge. It was the former midfielders first managerial role after being Stuart Maynard's right hand man at Wealdstone and Notts County. With Maynard at York, the 36-year-old may fancy another crack behind the scenes with Maynard before venturing into management again.
