Few young players in non-league football have made an impact as quickly or as convincingly as Danny Ormerod, whose rapid development has seen him emerge as one of the standout attacking talents at AFC Fylde. Still only 19, Ormerod has already demonstrated maturity beyond his years, combining natural finishing ability with intelligent movement and a strong work ethic.
Ormerod’s pathway into senior football took shape after his departure from the academy at Blackpool. Joining AFC Fylde’s youth setup, he quickly established himself as a prolific and reliable goal scorer at under-18 level. His performances in youth competitions earned him regular involvement with the first-team environment, allowing him to bridge the gap between academy and senior football.
That progression was formally recognised in late 2023 when Ormerod signed his first professional contract. The deal reflected both his consistent performances and the club’s long-term view of him as a player capable of making a meaningful impact at senior level.
The 2023/24 season marked Ormerod’s first sustained exposure to competitive first-team football in the National League North. Despite his age, he adapted quickly to the physical challenges of the league, making 26 appearances and scoring seven goals.
One of the defining moments of the campaign came when he scored twice on his first professional start - a performance that underlined his confidence and finishing ability. Those early contributions helped establish him as a genuine first-team option rather than a development player.
To ensure regular minutes and continued development, Fylde arranged a loan move to Chorley FC during the 2024/25 season. The temporary switch proved valuable, giving Ormerod the chance to test himself consistently at senior level and refine his game in competitive match situations.
His time at Chorley was productive, and upon returning to Fylde later in the season, he did so with increased confidence and sharper decision-making in attacking areas.
The 2025/26 campaign has seen Ormerod cement his role as a central figure in Fylde’s attacking line. Now a regular starter, he has delivered important goals in league victories, including influential performances against Peterborough Sports and Radcliffe.
His composure in front of goal and growing consistency have placed him among the most effective forwards in the division, reflecting both his technical development and increased responsibility within the squad.
One of the standout moments of Ormerod’s young career came against Macclesfield, when he scored from just inside his own half. The goal highlighted his awareness, confidence and ability to seize opportunities, drawing widespread attention and further enhancing his reputation as an exciting attacking prospect.

While his goalscoring record is impressive, Ormerod offers much more to Fylde’s attacking play. Comfortable operating across the front line, he contributes with intelligent movement, effective link-up play and a strong work rate off the ball. His versatility allows the team tactical flexibility, while his willingness to press and track back has earned praise from teammates and supporters alike.
Danny Ormerod’s rise from youth prospect to first-team regular has been swift, but it has also been built on steady progression and consistent performances. With his confidence growing and responsibilities increasing, his future at AFC Fylde -and potentially beyond - looks promising. If his development continues on its current trajectory, Ormerod’s story may soon extend well beyond the National League North.
