Farnborough ended last season in a rather forgettable tenth place—comfortably mid-table, 16 points adrift of the playoffs and 18 clear of relegation. Now, under the continued leadership of Spencer Day, they’ll be aiming to turn that stability into something more ambitious.
This summer has seen some significant departures, with several key young talents moving on. Left-back Reggie Young has joined Dagenham & Redbridge, while Richard Chin—an exciting, versatile wide man who played a vital role in attack—has signed for Raith Rovers. Lexus Beeden, a standout centre-back, has made the move to Maidstone, and creative playmaker Joe Haigh, one of the best attacking players in the division last season, also heads to Dagenham. Loan star Jonny Stuttle has returned to parent club Bournemouth and is now out on loan at Walsall.
To replace those youthful talents, Farnborough have opted for a more experienced core—players who’ve "been there, done that" across non-league football.
Fan favourite John Oyenuga returns to the club at 30, fresh off a strong spell at Enfield, where he helped them avoid the drop. At the back, Ben Greenwood arrives from Weymouth to fill the void at left-back, while the defence has been bolstered with two standout centre-backs. Lachlan Byrd, who was Welling’s Player of the Year two seasons ago, and Louis Lomas, another excellent addition, suggest a shift to a back three. With Lomas, Byrd, and captain Ollie Robinson all too good to leave out, a tactical tweak seems likely.
In midfield, they’ve added real pedigree with the signing of Billy Clifford. The cultured central midfielder has twice won this division and was part of the Barnet side that earned promotion from the National League last season. This experienced influx adds depth and leadership to a squad that still includes standout midfielder Aaron Kuhl—not just known for his iconic hair, but also for his composure and quality in the middle of the park.
Up front, the firepower looks particularly strong. Rakish Bingham, a proven goal scorer during his time at Ebbsfleet, has joined, and he’s reunited with former teammate Dominic Poleon—who scored 36 goals the last time he played at this level and netted 21 more over two tough seasons in the National League. Mason Bloomfield also returns, having hit double digits for both Farnborough and Hampton & Richmond in back-to-back campaigns.
Farnborough look like a side building for a real push this season. While they’ve lost youthful spark in players like Haigh, Chin, and Young, they’ve replaced it with hardened, battle-tested performers ready to drive the club forward.
