Saturday’s late kick-off comes from the EBB Stadium as Aldershot hosts Rochdale.
Aldershot defied the odds last year by challenging near the playoffs. The management of Tommy Widdrington coupled with the astute recruitment of Jamie Hedges saw the Shots challenging higher up the league than predicted, just missing out on the top seven.
Despite losing goal scorers Josh Stokes and Lorent Tolaj to Bristol City and Port Vale respectively, Aldershot still looks in a healthy position thanks to their summer signings.
Several young signings from down the pyramid as well as some experienced signings have seen Aldershot invest their money well and they are in good stead for another season nearer the playoffs.
As was the case last season, Aldershot games have been high-scoring at both ends, with Tommy Widdrington’s side scoring 15 and conceding 12 in six games, with their games averaging 4.5 goals.
They started the season with a 3-3 draw to Forest Green, before a gritty 0-1 win at Halifax. Since then, there has been a contrast in the home and away form, winning 4-1 and 4-3 at home to Oldham and Maidenhead respectively, as well as losing 2-1 and 3-2 to newly promoted sides Braintree and Tamworth.
Rochdale played non-league football for the first time in their 102-year history last season and came 11th in a tumultuous season.
Jim McNulty was given a new contract for his attempt at stabilising a turbulent club, and this season has started strongly. From six games, Dale are fourth, having won three games, losing just once and conceding just twice. They have kept three clean sheets in a row having drawn 0-0 with Forest Green, beaten Yeovil 0-1 and Woking 3-0.
James Henry was signed from Championship side Oxford United in the summer and has taken the National League by storm. A player who could perhaps be playing at a higher standard had it not been for injuries, the 35-year-old has scored six goals in just five starts. Odds of 7.00 to score anytime for a free-flowing Aldershot side looks to present value.
Best Bet: James Henry to score @7.00
