The Southern League South is posting extraordinary numbers for the % of games that see over 2.5 goals (74.38%). With that in mind, I have an acca at odds of 8.91 purely from this gold-mine of a league.
Starting off in Devon as Plymouth Parkway host Chesham at Bolitho Park.
Lee Hobbs side currently sit 19th in the league, seeing 4 of their 7 home games (57%) land over 2.5 goals. The Parkway rank third bottom for away form, with the long journeys a disadvantage for them. However, they have been better at home, picking up 10 points from seven games. Plymouth Parkway games have seen an average of 3.4 goals per game.
Despite sitting in the relegation zone still, Plymouth Parkway’s recent form will give optimism, having lost just once in their last seven league games. A win away at fifth place Walton and Hersham and a draw at fourth place Merthyr the highlights in the mini revival. With plenty of games in hand on teams above them, the signs are good for Hobbs side in their bid to climb the table.
However, on Saturday table topping Chesham travel to Devon in a tough test for the hosts.
Chesham have been the team to beat this year, accumulating 42 points from 19 games, including 13 from their last five. The Generals suffered a mini wobble after their FA Cup exploits by losing back-to-back games, but have responded magnificently. 8/9 (89%) of Chesham away games have seen over 2.5 goals, with games on their travels averaging 3.77 goals per game.
Next, a trip to Wales as fourth placed Merthyr host 18th place Hanwell.
The Martyrs promotion aspirations have taken a slight hit in recent weeks, only picking up nine points in the last five games, as their promotion rivals such as Chesham push on.
Paul Michael’s side have seen over 2.5 goals land in 8/10 (80%) home games, with games at Pen-y-Darren Park averaging 3.4 goals.
Their hosts Hanwell have been chaotic at both ends, with their away games averaging 4.2 goals per game, and their overall games seeing 4.05 goals. Over 2.5 goals has landed in 8/10 away games and 16/19 total games (84%).
From Wales to London for the next game as Hayes and Yeading host Sholing at the SkyEx Community Stadium.
Hayes and Yeading currently sit 15th in the league, with their games averaging 3.5 goals per game. In terms of home games, 6/7 (86%) games have seen over 2.5 goals.
They host a Sholing side who currently occupy 12th, with their games averaging 2.9 goals per game. 9/11 of The Boatmen’s away games have seen three or more goals.
Perhaps the most entertaining non-league game of the day takes place at Earlsmead Stadium as Harrow Borough host Basingstoke.
Jordan Berry’s side currently occupy the relegation zone, sitting 20th with 14 points. Borough’s home form will disappoint Berry, with Harrow picking up as many points on their travels than at home. Their recent form has also been a huge let down, picking up just one point in the last six.
As mentioned earlier, Harrow Borough games are never short of entertainment. 9/9 of their home games and 18/19 of their overall games have seen over 2.5 goals for an average of 3.789 per game. The average increases to 4.33 at home.
Basingstoke aren’t strangers to goals either, their games average 4.09 goals. Dan Brownlie’s side have the second worst defensive record and the fourth best attacking record in the league.
Bracknell and Poole are separated just by goal difference and both face off on Saturday as they look to push towards the playoffs.
Bracknell games average 3.84 goals per game, with games at the SB Stadium averaging 4.33. This is boosted by their tremendous record in front of goal, scoring 28 in front of their own fans- the best goal per game ratio in the league. 9/9 of The Robins games at home have seen at least three goals, including 11 in the last 12 home and away games in all competitions.
Over 2.5 goals has landed in 12/17 Poole games, with Matt Tubb’s sides games seeing an average of 4.29 goals per game. Interestingly, Poole boast the second best away record in the league with 18 points from 11, with their away games seeing a mouth-watering 4.63 goals on average.
The final game sees 16th place Beaconsfield host 6th place Hungerford.
As is the theme with this article, goals are expected, with Beaconsfield’s games seeing 3.47 goals on average. 10/11 of games at Holloways Park has seen over 2.5 goals land.
Hungerford are equally as goal-gluttonous, with over 2.5 goals landing in 9/10 of away games and 18/20 overall- the second highest total in the league. Hungerford games average 3.9 goals per game.
