It doesn’t get much tighter than this.
The Northern Premier League Premier Division title will be decided on the final day, with Hednesford Town and Hebburn Town level on points and separated only by goal difference.
Hednesford head into the final round knowing the task in front of them is clear, if daunting. They must make up a five-goal swing if they are to overhaul Hebburn and snatch the title on the last afternoon of the season.
This title race has been defined by contrast. Hednesford boast the best defensive record in the division, conceding just 32 goals all season. Their campaign has been built on organisation, discipline, and an ability to shut games down when it matters most.
Hebburn, on the other hand, have simply outscored everyone. With 73 goals to their name, they arrive on the final day as the league’s most potent attacking force, capable of putting teams away quickly and ruthlessly.
It feels fitting that such opposing strengths have carried both sides to the brink of promotion.
On paper, both teams have opportunities. Hednesford welcome Ashton United, who currently sit tenth and have little left to play for beyond pride. Hebburn host Rushall Olympic, placed 15th and safely clear of danger.
But final-day football rarely follows logic.
Hednesford will know that winning alone may not be enough. They’ll need goals -and plenty of them -while also keeping one eye on events elsewhere. Hebburn, meanwhile, understand that an early breakthrough could effectively shut the door, forcing Hednesford into an almost impossible chase.
The winner will be promoted to the National League North. Who's your money on?
