Non League Football Preview | Matchday 30 April 2022

Publish Date: 28/04/2022

Last weekend saw the National League top three all dropping points with surprising defeats, and so Stockport County, Wrexham and Halifax Town will be hoping to bounce back this Saturday.

Wrexham have already avenged their defeat with an away 6-1 demolition of the ill-fated Weymouth on Tuesday night. This match puts Wrexham firmly in second place in the National League table - just four points behind Stockport, although Stockport have a game in hand.

Saturday will see Wrexham entertaining a tricky Southend United who earned a credible 1-0 win over Boreham Wood mid-week. It’s a game that Wrexham must win if they are to keep up the pressure on the league leaders. Stockport will entertain Boreham Wood in the late kick-off on Saturday and they will be desperate to avenge that shock 2-1 away defeat at Yeovil Town the previous weekend.

Halifax Town currently trail Wrexham by four points in third position and they will have a decent chance to stay in the race if they manage to pick up three points against mid-table Yeovil. Further afield, Solihull Moors will have a chance to compound Weymouth’s misery and hang on to their fourth-place in the National League table.

Other play-off contenders in action include Notts County who play stragglers Aldershot, Chesterfield who will entertain mid-table Bromley, and Grimsby Town who travel to lowly Barnet. Elsewhere there are games between strugglers King’s Lynn and Eastleigh, relegated Dover Athletic and Altrincham, Wealdstone and Dagenham and Redbridge, and Torquay and Maidenhead.

The battle for the top of the National League North

Things are heading to a dramatic conclusion in the battle for automatic promotion in the National League North. Gateshead are just two points ahead of Brackley Town and will be desperate to make amends for two dropped points last weekend.

Saturday will see Gateshead entertaining mid-table Southport who have been struggling with form recently. Brackley will be hoping to build on last weekend’s victory when they play lowly Blyth Spartans.

Third placed AFC Fylde entertain Kettering Town and will be looking to continue their impressive run of performances, while fourth-place Kidderminster Harriers will be hoping to turn the corner on three successive draws by beating bottom-placed Guiseley.

Further afield, there are games between Telford and Boston, Alfreton and Chester, Bradford Park Avenue and Darlington, Curzon Ashton and Leamington, Farsley and York, Gloucester and Chorley, and Spennymoor and Hereford.

All to play for in the National League South

Maidstone will be looking to consolidate their four point lead at the top of the National League South with what should be an easy win over Chelmsford. Other contenders include Dorking Wanderers who travel to St Albans after their astonishing seven goal victory last week, Ebbsfleet United who entertain Chippenham, and Dartford who travel to mid-table Slough.

Other National League South fixtures include Bath and Tonbridge, Braintree and Hemel Hempstead, Concord and Oxford City, Eastbourne and Billericay, Havant and Hampton, and Hungerford and Welling.
