The former Wrexham man, 33, signed for County last summer, along with his brother Connor.

As part of a statement, he has explained: "Unfortunately, following surgery and having taken advice from my knee consultant, it’s with a heavy heart that I am having to announce my retirement from the game we all love so much.

"It has been a privilege to be a professional footballer for some 15 years, amassing over 500 games in all competitions.

"I have been very fortunate to have represented so many great clubs up and down the country, along with making some great friendships."

The one-time Macclesfield Town, Cambridge United and Forest Green Rovers full-back added:

"As a footballer, we know the journey has to come to an end, but for me to finish playing for my hometown club is something I will reflect on with great pride."
