The winter months can be difficult to navigate for Non-League teams due to adverse weather often causing postponements. With some midweek fixtures, we look at three games that stand out for goals. Read below for our best bets and predictions.
After nearly securing a big promotion last season, Eastbourne Borough were expected to kick on and challenge again this year but a host of departures, including manager Adam Murray has seem them struggle this campaign.
Former Sutton United manager Matt Gray was appointed but has been sacked with the team in relegation danger. Ex-Aldershot manager Tommy Widdrington was appointed as his replacement and he has brought his chaotic football to Priory Lane.
Since the 0-1 win over Maidenhead, Borough have played 15 games, scoring 28 goals and conceding 38, with their games averaging a whooping 4.4 goals. All 15 of these have seen over 2.5 goals land.
Horsham have had a strong start to the season after promotion from the Isthmian Premier Division, sat eighth – just outside the playoffs on goal difference. While The Hornets games aren’t on the same scale as Eastbourne, the underlying numbers suggest more are coming at both ends, so there should be plenty of goals in this all-Sussex affair.
A rank outsider for the title, Folkestone now sit 11 points clear at the top of the table and look a shoe-in for the title. Before their 1-2 loss to Chatham last time out, Invicta had won 12 straight league games and boasted a near perfect home record (nine wins one draw 0 losses). With Joe Pigott, Jake Hutchinson and Adam Yusuff, to name just three, Jay Saunders has goals in abundance to call upon – evident in 9/11 of their home games seeing at least three goals, scoring 34 in these games.
Only Tuesday’s hosts have better form over the last ten games, with Aveley picking up 22 points in this time, with the games averaging 4.2 goals. The Millers have seen over 2.5 goals in 7/10 on the road, as well as their last five.
A big club for this level, Havant are struggling to hit the expectations of them, sat 14th in the league. However, four wins on the bounce with 14 goals scored gives hopes of a late playoff push. With 38 goals scored and 38 conceded in 21 games, The Hawks games are averaging 3.61 goals. A joint league high 16/21 games have seen over 2.5 goals.
The other side with 16/21 over 2.5 goal games are Farnham. Buoyed by multiple promotions in succession, The Town are in unchartered territory as they chase promotion to Step Two for the first time in history. Farnham games are averaging 3.66 goals, so expect plenty of action in Hampshire.
