Last week, we were one goal away from a winning acca. We try again this week with a 10.68 odds, goal themed acca.
The tie of this weekend is arguably Ebbsfleet vs Chesterfield. Newly promoted Ebbslfeet have exceeded expectations thus far, sitting in 7th, while Chesterfield occupy second, behind leaders Barnet on goal difference.
The Fleet have yet to draw a game this season, winning four and losing four of their eight games. Manager Dennis Kutrieb has them playing exciting, pressing football, with their 15 goals scored and 12 conceded concrete evidence of this. The German will be disappointed by his side's lack of consistency, with every victory followed up by a defeat. Last week's 2-1 defeat to Wealdstone was disappointing, but perhaps a different result may have occurred if league top scorer Dominic Poelon was not on international duty.
Chesterfield are the epitome of entertainment. Paul Cook possesses a strong squad filled with an abundance of attacking talent, with the Spireites scoring 22 goals in just eight games. Their wins this season have been 4-3, 2-4, 1-2, 3-2, 3-4, and 3-1, while they lost 2-1 to Altrincham and drew 1-1 with Oldham.
Ebbsfleet games average 3.375 goals per game, while Chesterfield games average a staggering 4.625. With two potent attacks and two leaky defences, I expect goals galore in Kent.
Selection: BTTS and over 2.5 goals
The next game that has massive potential for goals is the mid-table clash between Wealdstone and Altrincham.
Stuart Maynard has done an outstanding job at the Stones, defying expectations by pushing the semi-professional outfit up the league table despite possessing a much lower budget than most teams in the National League. The 42-year-old has Wealdstone playing good football in 11th place, scoring 10 goals and conceding 12. In Tahvon Campbell, Wealdstone boast a striker with a fine National League record when at Woking.
Of their last five games, four of them have seen BTTS and over 2.5 goals, with the exception of a 2-0 loss to Dagenham and Redbridge.
They host an Altrincham side that is one point and one place behind them. The visitors have scored 13 goals and conceded 15 in eight games, with Altrincham games averaging 3.5 goals a game. Seven of Phil Parkinson’s games have seen BTTS, with the exception of last week's 3-0 defeat at Barnet. Six out of eight have seen over 2.5 goals, with 1-1 draws at home to Boreham Wood, Dagenham and Redbridge diminishing the record.
Selection: BTTS and over 2.5 goals
Fourth placed Hartlepool host 8th placed Woking in what is set to be a classic at Victoria Park.
Hartlepool have been an article favourite for goals for us – and for good reason. The Monkey Hangers have scored 19 goals and conceded 17 in eight games, at an average of a staggering 4.5 goals per game. Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals has landed in every game for John Askey’s side, with his side dangerous in attack but leaky at the back. They are the third highest scorers in the league and the third leakiest defence. Emmanuel Dieseruvwe has been in fine fettle since his summer move from FC Halifax, scoring six goals already. Josh Umerah scored 12 goals in League Two last season and will be hoping to force himself back into Askey’s plan.
While Woking haven’t been as goal-gluttonous as Hartlepool, the Cardinals have a decent record for goals, scoring 11 and conceding nine. However, they’ve played teams such as Maidenhead, Solihull Moors and Kidderminster who see low goal totals. In games against high scoring teams such as Altrincham and Gateshead there have been an abundance of goals, with Daryll Sarlls team losing 2-3 to Altrincham and beating Gateshead 1-3. With clinical strikers such as Padriag Amond, Reece Browne and Reece Greggo-Cox amongst their ranks, Woking are normally good value for a goal or two.
Selection: BTTS and over 2.5 goals
Another tie involving a northern team and one from Surrey to end the article. 15th place Aldershot host, 6th place Gateshead.
The Shots come into this game fresh off an impressive 2-0 victory at AFC Fylde. This will have pleased Tommy Widdrington, with his side losing 3-4 to Chesterfield and 3-0 to Eastleigh before this. Aldershot have scored 15 goals and conceded 18 so far this season, at an average of 4.125 goals per game. Five of their eight games have seen over 2.5 goals, with the other three ending on two goals.
19-year-old Josh Stokes was signed from Sudbury in the summer and has been a revelation, scoring four goals already, including a brace in the 3-1 victory over Wealdstone. Lorent Tolaj has yet to score since his brace against Oxford City in the opener, but his pre-season form and performances for Brighton U23's shows he is more than capable in front of goal.
Gateshead have been massively entertaining for the neutrals, scoring 20 and conceding 12 at an average of four goals per game. Seven of their eight games have seen over 2.5 goals; their bore draw at FC Halifax was the only exception. Mike Williamson's side will be full of confidence, having just won 6-0 at Eastleigh.
The Tynesiders boast an abundance of attacking talent. Marcus Dinanga has six goals, Stephen Wearne has five, and Greg Olley continues to pull strings from midfield.
It is another game that should see goals at both ends.
Selection: BTTS and over 2.5
