Ryan Seager has become something of a modern-day legend at Havant & Waterlooville FC. His goalscoring prowess, leadership qualities and relentless work ethic have made him one of the most feared forwards in the lower reaches of English football. Now 29, the number 9 has blended professional pedigree with an instinctive eye for goal, bringing consistent excitement to Westleigh Park.
Born in Yeovil on 5 February 1996, Seager emerged from Southampton’s renowned academy — a conveyor belt of elite talent. His prolific scoring at youth level marked him out early, culminating in him winning the Under-21 Premier League Golden Boot in the 2014/15 season. That form earned him senior opportunities, including Premier League and FA Cup appearances for the Saints.
Seager’s early career took in a series of valuable loan spells at Crewe Alexandra, Milton Keynes Dons and Yeovil Town, alongside an overseas experience with Dutch side SC Telstar. In 2019, he departed Southampton and began forging an impressive non-league career. A loan spell with Havant & Waterlooville gave fans an early glimpse of his potential impact, before prolific stints elsewhere — most notably at Hungerford Town, where he netted 27 league goals — and a solid campaign with Dorking Wanderers.
Seager’s permanent return to the Hawks in November 2023 proved transformative. The 2024/25 campaign was nothing short of extraordinary, as he struck an astonishing 41 goals in all competitions. In doing so, he shattered Havant & Waterlooville’s long-standing club record and finished as the Southern League Premier Division South’s top scorer. A late-season surge saw him end the campaign joint top of the entire seventh tier’s goalscoring charts — an achievement widely celebrated across local media.
While the numbers told a remarkable story, Seager’s influence stretched far beyond the scoresheet. His leadership and professionalism were recognised by both teammates and supporters, as he collected the Players’ Player of the Season award and emerged as a clear fans’ favourite. Prolific runs in December and April also earned him multiple monthly honours, underlining his consistency across the season.
On 19 April 2025, Seager reached another landmark, scoring his 50th goal for the Hawks — a moment warmly celebrated by club and supporters alike. Throughout his time at Havant & Waterlooville, he has combined veteran nous with ruthless finishing, cementing his status as one of the most respected figures in the club’s recent history.
This season, Seager has gone from strength to strength once again, already amassing 30 goals in just 26 league appearances despite the Hawks hovering in mid-table. Recently appointed club captain, he has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract running until 2028. Yet at 29, the question lingers: could one final prolific chapter earn Ryan Seager a last shot at the EFL?
