There is a real feel good factor at York at the moment. They have won four of their last five and are rapidly making progress up the league, looking to wrong last seasons wrongs. In midweek, key trio Ollie Pearce, Joe Felix and Alex Hunt all signed new contracts.
After six prolific seasons at Worthing that culminated in him winning the National League South golden boot in his final season with 43 goals, Ollie Pearce was reunited with Adam Hinshelwood at the start of the 2024/2025 campaign. The 30-year-old would be playing in the National League for the first time in his career but took to it like a duck to water.
Pearce swept the golden boot award, scoring 31 goals in 46 games as York finished second in the division. He has started this campaign in equally impressive form, scoring five goals and laying on two assists in nine appearances. York's talisman was heavily linked with an EFL move over the summer but has pledged his loyalty to the Minstermen with a new "multi-year contract."
Joe Felix also arrived from Worthing ahead of the 2024/2025 campaign after a tremendous debut campaign for The Rebels. In his first season, the 25-year-old contributed ten goals en route to winning the Clubman Of The Year award. A versatile operator, Felix is best as a marauding wing back and has already registered two assists this season.
A tireless runner and creative maestro, it is easy to see why Felix is a popular figure at the LNER Community stadium.
Unlike Pearce and Felix who have spent their football journey in Non-League, Alex Hunt has experience of playing in the EFL, playing a role in the Grimsby side who reached the FA Cup quarter final in 2023. He initially joined York on loan, but made the permanent switch at the start of the 2024/2025 campaign.
Hunt made 46 league campaigns last year, scoring four goals and assisting nine. A mainstay in midfield, the 25-year-old has already scored three goals this campaign.
Ahead of their trip to Forest Green on Saturday, the news will be a welcome one for the Ministermen faithful. Will this be enough for them to win the league?
