Torquay United boss Gary Johnson believes the decision to introduce streaming for National League matches could be bad for clubs in the division.
It comes on the back of a statement released by the National League last week, where they announced plans to introduce a streaming service.
But despite being welcomed by most clubs in the league, Torquay manager Johnson has raised some concerns over the proposal.
Speaking to Non League Daily.com following Torquay’s 6-0 defeat to title favourites Wrexham on Saturday afternoon, Johnson labelled the move as potentially troubling:
“I don’t know enough about it in terms of the finances for clubs… but it would be disappointing if it had an effect on a club’s income.
“Does that stop supporters coming to home games, paying a pretty penny for a pie, pint and ticket?
“Do they chose to stay at home and pay a tenner instead? I don’t know. That would be disappointing if they do.”
“I can understand it if you’re the away support and people can’t nowadays afford to go to the away games.
“Some might decide to stay at home and watch it on the stream. I don’t know what that will mean for clubs.”
Johnson finds his Torquay side bottom of the National League table, having one won just two of their opening 10 matches.
They’ll look to resurrect their campaign when they welcome fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United to Plainmoor this weekend.
