As most people use their phone or tablet by default these days, one of the most important parts of the Betfred online gaming experience will be how the Betfred app performs. This guide will take you through getting the right app for your Betfred betting preferences, as there is more than one, and downloading it safely to your device.
We’ll also take you through the basic functions so you can see how the app shares all of the same functionality as the desktop site, and will allow you to play seamlessly on the move as well as at home.
If you have used the Betfred desktop site, you will know that it is simple to use with everything laid out so you can find what you want easily. However, you can’t take your laptop with you to play or bet on the bus, and you certainly can’t take it to the pub when you are watching the match and want to place a bet in play. You could use your phone of course, as the mobile-friendly version of the site is just as easy to use as the desktop site. However, as you probably saw in our full Betfred review, using the app takes things to another level.
You also need to be aware that there is more than one Betfred app. We mention this right at the start in case you think one of them might not be legit, but both are part of Betfred, it’s just one of them is dedicated to the wide range of lotto options available.
Regardless of which app you opt for (although it is likely to be the main one), you can download it safely with very few hoops to jump through. The app is available for both Android and Apple devices via the formats’ app store, and the download process is very similar for both.
You can find the app for the Apple version by going to the store and searching for Betfred. You will be taken to the download page which will display images for iPad and iPhone so you know what to expect. As you can see from the rating, the app had some teething issues regarding speed, but you will also see that these are resolved now.
As with the app store, you can find the Betfred app by simply searching for Betfred, and the app can be installed in just a few seconds. The Betfred Android app is slightly higher rated than the Apple version, but on closer inspection, you’ll see some of the issues are caused by users not knowing how to use the app correctly - which is part of the reason why this guide exists.
The first time you open the Betfred app on Android you will be asked about your location and notification preferences, and then you will be greeted with a screen that will look familiar if you have used the mobile version of the site before. You will see some of the available Betfred promotions scrolling across the top and above them buttons to either login or register.
You will see straight away on the progress bar at the top of your screen that this is a 6-step process, the first of which is setting up a username and password. After reading the T&Cs and declaring that you are over 18, it’s time to enter some personal details, including your name and DOB. Next is your email and your phone number, and then your address details. After that you need to set your currency, a few more contact options and you can hit the register button and get started.
If you already have an account, however, getting started with the app is much easier. You simply enter your username and password and you are in. You do have the option to have your username remembered or login automatically next time, which will save you time if you are going to use the app regularly.
After your Betfred app download and login, you can start exploring the other functions for using Betfred on the go. Across the top, you will see options for sports, games, casino, lotto, live casino, vegas, virtual sports bingo, and a host of other options. Rather than go through all of these, you can see how the app works by looking at just two areas, sports, and casino, which are the most popular.
Here you have a number of icons taking you to the various major sports at the top, or you can have an a-z list of sports appear if you aren’t going to bet on football, horse racing, or the dogs. Clicking on the football icon gives you a huge amount of matches and markets, as well as the overall odds for the title races in the Premier League. You can also choose an in-play match from the new screen, and clicking on the game will bring up the popular markets, with the ‘more bets’ option giving you more options. Odds for each outcome are displayed, and selecting those odds brings up your bet slip. Inputting your stake shows you your potential return, and hitting a bet seals the deal and gives you a ‘bet successful’ message.
The casino tab also brings up plenty of options for many of the games available, which could take a lot of scrolling even with the games divided into groups. This is where the search bar comes in very handy, and once you have decided on a game clicking on the game tile will start the game loading. This should happen quickly, but that will of course depend on your device and connection. The games function the same as they would on the desktop version, whether you are playing in portrait mode or with your device turned on its side in landscape mode.
Once you get the basics of operating the app, you can start to look at managing your account and completing functions like making deposits and withdrawals. To get to your account dashboard you can either select the option from the many choices you are given from the hamburger menu on the left, or you can simply press the button that has your balance displayed on it on the top right of your screen.
This will show you your account name and number, as well as your cash balance and any bonus bets you still have to use. Underneath this, you will also have your casino chips balance, followed by the more general options. You can see your balance history, and your bet history and change your password, but the most important functions here are for adding to your balance or cashing out your winnings.
If you have made a deposit using the desktop version of the site, this will look very much the same. However, if this is your first time, you will see a number of options in front of you, each with a green deposit button next to it. You will see Visa and Mastercard as debit card options, Skrill and Neteller for e-wallets, Paypal, and Paysafe card.
Hitting the deposit button next to any of them will take you to a screen to deposit the amount, and if necessary enter your card or account details. Hitting the deposit button will then complete the transaction or take you to the account provider to finish the process there. Depending on the method you have chosen, the funds will show up in your account instantly, or in just a few minutes.
This again will look familiar if you have made a withdrawal on the website and also looks similar to the deposit process. The difference here is that there is no option to withdraw to a Paysafe card, and it’s hitting the withdrawal button next to your preferred method that takes you to the next stage. Here again, you enter the amount and any account details if you have not set this up previously, then hitting the withdrawal button sets the transaction into motion. It is not quite as speedy as making a deposit, as there is a verification process first that could take up to 48 hrs. After that, the Betfred withdrawal times will vary according to the method you have chosen.
If the promotion you are interested in is not rotating on your home screen, hitting the hamburger menu will give you the option to see everything that is available. These are divided up into the area of the site where the promotion is active, and as you will see there are typically 30-40 going on at any one time. There are, of course, a number of welcome bonuses, with at least one for each main area of the site, including bingo and lotto. This only makes up a small part of the total number, and selecting the area you want will show you what is available for you to take advantage of.
Most of these promotions centre around winning bonus bets and free spins, either accrued as part of your gameplay or given as prizes as part of a giveaway. These are each displayed in detail on the app, so you can see exactly what is involved, and most importantly, the T&Cs of the offer.
Lotto is included in the main app, but, as mentioned previously, there is also a separate app for lotto players who might not want to have a whole betting platform downloaded on their devices. This is available from the same outlets as the main app and downloads just as easily. It has the same functionality as the lotto section of the main app, where you can buy tickets for several different types of draws, access a number of scratchcards, see results, and view promotions. You can also deposit and withdraw in the same way you can on the main app if you choose.
Of course, if you are betting live you will want to see the action as well to make informed decisions. There are plenty of events that you can watch live but these tend not, for obvious reasons, to be the games you might normally see on subscription television. You can however watch snooker, tennis, and a great number of horse races, along with any other event with watch live displayed next to it.
The video quality will depend on your device and connection but overall is pretty good. Watching in landscape mode to see more of the action can be a bit hit-and-miss, with the small screen in portrait mode often too small to be of much use. As indicated earlier though, there should be no glitches when placing a live bet using Betfred for Android, which is the most likely use for the app for most people.
One possible criticism you could make about the app, however, is that customer support options aren’t as visible as they could be. There is no option on the top or bottom menus or any of the icons that are displayed. Instead, you have to go in via the hamburger menu and select contact us from the many options displayed.
From the contact us screen you are given the options of live chat, which is the quickest, or email if you need to include a lot more detail. There is also the option to phone support between 8 am and 8 pm and as an 0800 number, won’t cost you anything, but you will have to go through the usual push button options before you can speak to anyone.
It is essential to many people that the Betfred app performs well, and after reading this guide, you will see that it has all of the functionality of the desktop site. After downloading it safely you can register or log in to your account and place bets and play games. You can fund your account if you wish, as well as make withdrawals and contact customer support if anything goes awry. Overall the Betfred app, if used correctly will enhance what is already a very good Betfred experience.
