Arsenal will be looking to move back to the top of the Premier League on Thursday when they entertain West Ham United. Liverpool’s win over Burnley knocked the Gunners down to second place. The Hammers have hit some form recently and are searching for a third successive Premier League victory.
Arsenal have won three and drawn one of their last five league matches with one ending in defeat at Aston Villa. They held fellow title chasers Liverpool to a draw in their last game and they will be eager to dispose of West Ham and regain their place at the top of the ladder. The Gunners will be without former Chelsea star Kai Havertz after he picked up his fifth booking of the season against Liverpool. Emile Smith-Rowe will be hoping to take his place. Thomas Partey, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Fabio Vieria are still out injured.
David Moyes has turned West Ham United into a decent side. They are doing well in Europe and they are always pushing for a top-half place. They are currently seventh on the ladder and have won their last two matches without conceding a goal. They can be a little inconsistent at times. They have beaten Spurs and Manchester United recently but were hammered by Fulham and drew with Crystal Palace. If they can start winning the games they are expected to, then they will be challenging for a European place again. Moyes will be without striker Michail Antonio who has a knee problem, although he is not far away from returning.
The Gunners have won 67 of their 133 meetings against the Hammers with 39 wins coming on home soil. West Ham won their last encounter 3-1 in the Carabao Cup back in November. The visitors have not won a league game at Arsenal since their 2-0 win back in August 2015. Arsenal have three of their last five Premier League matches against West Ham with two draws, while United have not picked up three points against the Gunners since a 1-0 win at the London Stadium in January 2019. The scorer that day was Declan Rice who will be lining up against the Hammers on Thursday.
Arsenal look like genuine title contenders this season and victory over West Ham will see them head into the New Year on top of the ladder as we head into the business end of the campaign. I expect this to be a tight affair with not many goals in it. Check out these stats and best betting odds ahead of the game between Arsenal and West Ham United.
Our Betting Tip for Today- Declan Rice to score & Arsenal to win - 21/5 @ Copybet
Arsenal need to be winning their home matches if they are to be serious title contenders. They are the favourites in this game and can be backed at 33/100. The Hammers are 15/2 to upset the Gunners, while a draw can be backed at 9/2.
Declan Rice will be lining up against his former club for the first time in the Premier League since leaving the Hammers to join Arsenal. He played just over half an hour in the League Cup earlier this season, but points in the league mean more to Rice and the Gunners. Rice gave his all for West Ham, and although a lot of fans did not begrudge his big-money move, I still expect a few boos coming from the away end on Thursday. That will spur the England international and I am backing him to score his fourth Premier League goal of the season.
