The Premier League continues this weekend, with the Boxing Day fixtures taking centre stage.  For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important fixture in the Premier League this weekend between Aston Villa and Cheslea at Villa Park. 

Aston Villa are a side transformed under Steven Gerrard. Since arriving from Rangers, Gerrard led his Villa side to three wins in four but they have plateaued in recent weeks. Villa have alternated between wins and losses over the last five but they’ve steered clear of the bottom three and only six points off of fifth.

The Villains have had a few injury/COVID-19  problems to manage as well. Keinan Davis, Morgan Sanson, and Anwar El-Ghazi have all had the virus in recent weeks but they could be available if they test negative. Whilst wingers Bertrand Traore, and Leon Bailey are definitely out for the game.

After an unbelievable start to the Premier League season, Chelsea are faltering during the winter period. It began with a 3-2 defeat to West Ham United at the London Stadium, and now they have drawn their last two against a depleted Everton side and Wolves. So, this game seems a must win for Thomas Tuchel’s side to remain in the hunt for the title.

Chelsea were one of the sides hit hardest by COVID. They couldn’t name a full bench for some of their recent fixtures, and they had to make enforced substitutions in those games. Both Ziyech and Chalobah had to be replaced in their previous fixture, but both may be available for the game against Villa.

Chelsea are enduring a turbulent run of form for the first time in the Thomas Tuchel era. The Blues were a formidable defensive unit earlier in the season, but they have conceded ten goals in the last five (including the Champions League). And Aston Villa were a bogey side for Chelsea last year.

The Villains didn’t lose against Chelsea last season. They picked up a win and a draw against Chelsea, including a victory over Thomas Tuchel. But they didn’t fare so well earlier this year. They lost 3-0 at Stamford Bridge and they were knocked out by Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
