After a week filled with domestic cup action, the Premier League returns this weekend with some blockbuster fixtures. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important matchup between Aston Villa and Manchester United at Villa Park
Since arriving from Rangers, Gerrard led his Villa side to three wins in four but they have plateaued in recent weeks. They have back-to-back losses at the hands of Brentford and Chelsea in the Premier League, and these losses continued when they played Manchester United last weekend. The Villains were unlucky but ultimately fell to a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
Aston Villa do have some fresh faces for this fixture. Philippe Coutinho has completed his move from Barcelona, and reports suggest the deal for Lucas Digne is almost done. However, they will be without John McGinn due to suspension, whilst Trezeguet and Bertrand Traore are at the AFCON.
Since Ralph Rangnick was appointed, United have enjoyed a slight upturn in-form. Despite being unimpressive in general, United have won three of their last five in the Premier League, and they are now through in the FA Cup.
The main problem for Manchester United ahead of Saturday's fixture is availability. Both Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay are unavailable because of suspensions, Eric Bailly is away at the AFCON, and numerous players are dealing with little niggles.
Despite their struggles, Manchester United have been victorious on most occasions against Aston Villa. They hadn’t lost to Villa since 2009 before they met at Old Trafford earlier this season, when Dean Smith’s side ran out 1-0 winners.
This trend continued when the two sides met in the FA Cup last week. An early Scott McTominay goal was enough to United the win, and give the Red Devils their first win over their former foe Steven Gerrard.
This game is going to be tight. Since Rangnick arrived, barring the 3-0 win over Burnley, most United games have been close. In addition, Aston Villa have been much more competitive under Gerrard and they could have nicked a result on Monday. With this in mind, we are predicting a Manchester United victory but under 3.5 goals with Ladbrokes at 2/1.
