Intro
Aston Villa host Newcastle on Saturday evening in the Premier League that could define who ends up in the Champions League places next season. The hosts were cruelly denied a spot in this year's semi-finals despite beating PSG midweek, while their next opponents rock up at Villa Park having won six games on the bounce. Aston Villa have endured a wonderful season to date. Their fairytale story in the Champions League may be over, but Unai Emery will be desperate for his team to return to the tournament next campaign. Currently occupying 7th spot, Aston Villa are only three points behind Nottingham Forest in 4th, and one behind Man City in 5th. A win would propel them back into the Champions League places.

Newcastle hammered Crystal Palace 5-0 midweek to lift them into 3rd place. With six wins in a row - across all competitions to their name - Eddie Howe's team are finishing the season in some style. Confidence is high, and having beaten Villa 3-0 at St. James' Park earlier in the season, the travelling Toon Army will be optimistic they can continue their fine form.
Geordies hunting the double
Not only did Newcastle win the reverse fixture comfortably on Boxing Day, but Howe's side won 3-1 last season at Villa Park. Emery's side have been one of the best in front of their home fans in the Premier League this campaign, but this will no doubt be one of their biggest tests to date - and at such a crucial part of the season.

Newcastle have, in fact, won the last three head-to-heads, and have only lost three of their last ten meetings going back to 2021. Newcastle have won their last six - scoring at least two goals in all of them - but they have conceded against Brentford, Liverpool and Manchester United within this run.
