Two Champions League chasing sides go head to head on Sunday in the Premier League as Aston Villa welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Villa Park.
Despite suffering a slight blip recently, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side have been incredible at home in the Premier League this season.
The Villans boast the fourth best home record in the league and have lost just two of their 13 home matches at Villa Park. In their first eight home games of the season, Villa had a 100% record at home and turned Villa Park into a fortress.
In recent times though, they have tailed off, with just one win in their last four at home in all competitions.
Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur side have made a decent start to 2024 with Spurs playing eight games across all competitions in the new calendar year and losing just two of those.
They sit in fifth place and five points behind Sunday’s opponents Aston Villa and will be looking to close the gap when the two teams face off.
Despite only picking up 20 of their 50 Premier League points this season away from home, Spurs have lost the joint least games on the road, with just two losses.
The last five meetings between Aston Villa and Spurs have thrown up a varying degree of results. Villa have managed to win the last three fixtures between the sides, with Tottenham winning the two prior to those three.
Those five games have seen a plethora of entertainment, with 15 goals scored for a total average of 3 goals scored per game. Spurs’ recent record at Villa Park has been decent with the North London side winning four of the last five meetings in Birmingham, although that loss did come in the most recent meeting at Villa Park.
Aston Villa’s home record is up there with the best in the Premier League and they have beaten both Manchester City and Arsenal at Villa Park in 2023/24. It is an incredibly hard place to go to and Spurs will have their work cut.
Please change “ABC” to a short headline related to which of the 1X2 markets you believe is most likely; e.g. “Manchester United are definite favourites”.
When looking at the respective records of the sides, I am trusting Aston Villa to extend the lead over Spurs in the league.
Although some stats do show that Spurs have been decent away from home in the Premier League this season, it is hard to look past the brilliant home record of Unai Emery’s side.
With Villa having won the last three meetings between the sides in a row, they are familiar with the feeling of a victory over Tottenham and will be looking to make it four on the spin on Sunday. Betting wise, an Aston Villa home win currently sits at great odds of 2.37 on Bet 365.
