Tedesco’s side are Group E’s strongest nation. Calzona’s men are the lowest ranked side.
Belgium is taking part in their third successive European Championship campaign. The Red Devils haven’t tasted defeat since the World Cup in Qatar. Domenico Tedesco’s side cruised through the qualification stage, earning 20 points from 24. I’m not overly convinced about this side, especially in defence.
Romelu Lukaku dominated in qualifying. The forward scored 14 times in just eight appearances. His performances could be the difference for Belgium. He’s the leading scorer for the national team with 84 goals.
Group E is relatively straightforward. Romania and Ukraine are the other nations involved. Tedesco’s men should make the knockout stages with ease. They’ve performed well at times in recent months. A Victory over Germany and a draw at Wembley with England are the standout results.
Slovakia is also making their third successive appearance at the Euros. They arrive in good shape after winning 4-0 in their two matches leading up to the competition. Francesco Calzona’s men performed well in qualifying. Only Portugal defeated them, which isn’t anything to be ashamed of.
This Slovakia side has talent. Defensively, I expect them to be strong. Martin Dubravka is likely to start between the sticks. David Hancko, Milan Skriniar and Peter Pekarik provide experience. It’s a midfield that features Stanislav Lobotka, a talent. Lukas Haraslin is the main goal threat. The Sparta Prague man scored three in five across qualifying.
Belgium and Slovakia have met three times in their history. The recent encounter arrived back in 2013. Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens’ goals came either side of Richard Lasik’s equaliser in a contest that ended 2-1.
The clash on Monday night will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides. It’s easy to see how this game will play out. Belgium will look to keep the ball and focus on getting the ball wide to the exceptional talent they possess.
Slovakia will be resilient. Keeping things tight is vital for them. Conceding an early goal will be disastrous. They’ll have their chances from set pieces and look to catch Belgium out on the counter.
With international encounters played far less than club football, statistics and form are rarely consistent. This is the first competitive meeting between the two nations.
Despite that, here are three interesting stats ahead of this Euro 2024 match between Belgium vs Slovakia.
After analysing the fixture and markets available, I’m keeping things simple in this one. Belgium’s record scorer loves playing for his national team. He’ll be confident in adding another to his tally.
I highlighted Romelu Lukaku’s emphatic scoring record above. The Belgian has been tremendous and is the obvious candidate to find the back of the net on Monday. The price on offer at 2.05 (21/20) is appealing, and I’m more than happy to back.
Belgium are considerable favourites. They’re the strongest side in the group and should make the knockouts without breaking a sweat. Tedesco’s side is priced at 1.48 to win this encounter and 1.57 to score two goals.
Lukaku scored twice against Luxembourg earlier this month. He’ll be full of confidence heading to Germany. Our man will be on penalty duty. There’s an abundance of attacking talent looking to feed the ball into Lukaku.
Doku and Trossard are likely to start on either flank. They both pose a threat. Kevin De Bruyne will play behind Romelu. We all know about the Manchester City man. He’s sublime. Rom will relish the chance of playing with KDB in another international tournament.
The selection is for Romelu Lukaku to find the back of the net. The price is currently 2.05 (21/20).
