Canelo Alvarez returns to the ring for the first time since September 2025 and he hopes to get one of his belts back.

Canelo was beaten by a unanimous decision in his last fight against Terence 'Bud' Crawford in a fight that was billed Once In A Lifetime and  There Can Only Be One.

In that fight, Canelo lost all of his world titles. He put his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring Super Middleweight titles on the line, but he was unsuccessful in defending those belts as Crawford became the undisputed super middleweight champion.

Just under three months after beating Canelo, the WBC stripped Crawford of his title after claiming he had not paid his $300,000 sanctioning fee. Thirteen days later, he announced his retirement from boxing at the age of 38.

With Crawford retiring, this meant someone had to get the title belts. Mbilli was already the interim WBC super middleweight champion at the time Crawford retired, so he was promoted to full champion and this will be his first genuine title defence.

Canelo is one of the greatest fighters ever, he takes his time and he is not worried about being taken the distance. He will work out his opponent and if the fight calls for him to throw a knockout punch he will, but he is more than happy to get his rounds in.

His last eight fights have gone the distance with six defeats and two defeats. Out of his 68 fights, he has won 63 with 24 by decision. I think he will make it win 25 on points.

Mbilli is a good fighter, but I am unsure whether or not he can trouble Canelo. He will go the distance but it will be a unanimous decision with Canelo hardly breaking sweat.
