Daniel Dubois puts his WBO heavyweight title belt on the line against Fabio Wardley on Saturday, October 17 at the O2 Arena in London in a rematch from their first bout in Manchester earlier in May.
Dubois defeated Wardley back on May 9 at the Co-Op Arena with an 11th round stoppage to become a two-time heavyweight champion of the world, and stripping Wardley of his crown in his first defence.
Dubois came into the first Wardley fight on the back of a third professional defeat and his second against Oleksandr Usyky - his first loss was against Joe Joyce back in 2020.
It looked like Dubois would be classed as a journeyman following his first loss to Usyk. He went on to beat Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic before picking up the biggest win and best performance of his career.
He went and knocked out Anthony Joshua with a devastating performance with a fifth round stoppage at Wembley Stadium, retaining his IBF title belt. That win catapulted him back into the spotlight and set him up against Usyk again.
He once again fell short as he lost his IBF belt while challenging for Usyk's WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, IBO and The Ring heavyweight titles, and it looked like he would never get his hand on one of the main belts.
Usyk then decided to vacate the WBO belt and it was handed to Wardley, then Dubois took it from him in their first fight.
That was a first professional defeat for Wardley, who went into the Dubois fight with a record of 21 fights, 19 wins and one draw. That draw came against Frazer Clarke in 2024.
He won a rematch against Clarke seven months later, before beating Justis Huni. He then fought and defeated Joseph Parker to set up a supposed bout with Usyk - Wardley won with an 11th round stoppage, but Usyk refused to fight Wardley and vacated the belt.
Wardley will be fuming that he lost that belt in his first defence, and I feel he will be better prepared for Dubois this time around. Dubois can get a complacent when he thinks he is at the top of his career, and I feel he will underestimate Wardley just because he has beaten him before.
Both of these fighters are powerful punchers. I am going for a 12 round war with Wardley getting his arm raised at the end on points.
