Brentford and Nottingham Forest are both in desperate need of three points when they clash in the Premier League on Saturday. The Bees find themselves in 16th position with 19 points and are only three points clear of the relegation places. Forest are not safe themselves as they are just one place and one point ahead of their opponents. Although a victory for either side will not guarantee they will stay in the Premier League next season, it will give them a little bit of breathing space.
Brentford are not in great form at the minute. Out of their last five matches in all competitions, they have lost four and drawn one. That draw was against Wolves in the FA Cup, and they were then dumped out of the tournament on Tuesday after extra time away at Molineux. In the Premier League, Brentford have not won since they defeated Luton Town at the start of December. They have since lost five straight in the league conceding 12 goals and scoring only four. Manager Thomas Frank will be without the suspended Ben Mee following his red card in a defeat against Aston Villa. Ivan Toney is expected to return for the Bees after serving his eight-month ban for gambling breaches. Only time will tell if he can return to form he was in before his suspension.
Nobody likes to see managers get sacked, but since Nuno Espirito Santo was brought in to replace Steve Cooper, Forest have looked a different side. Cooper was sacked on December 19 and since then the Reds have won three, drawn one and lost one in all competitions. One of those wins was a stunning 2-1 home success over Manchester United and that performance gave the fans the belief they can avoid relegation back to the Championship. Forest were also in action in midweek and they needed extra time to see off League One side Blackpool 3-2 after leading 2-0 at one stage. That performance will not worry Santo because he made several changes, and he knows results in the league are more important than a cup run. Divock Origi and Anthony Elanga have both picked up knocks and are unlikely to feature against Brentford.
These two teams are quite evenly matched when it comes to their history. Out of 22 matches, the Bees have won 10 and the Reds have been victorious seven times with five draws. Brentford have the upper hand when it comes to recent matches. They have won two of their last five meetings with three ending in a draw. The last time these two met was back in October at the City Ground with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. The last time Forest won on the road against Brentford was when they faced each other in the Championship back in 2020.
Brentford need to start picking up points quickly or they will be dragged into a relegation dogfight. They need to pick up points against teams around them before it is too late. Forest are still riding the wave of a new manager in charge and it seems to have revitalised several players. A win on Saturday could be crucial in their fight to move away from danger. Our Betting Tip for Today- Forest to win & BTTS 6/1 @ Bet365
Unfortunately, I cannot see where Brentford’s next win will come from, although they have been made favourites for this one because they are on home soil. They can be backed at 10/11 to gain their first league win since December. Forest are the 3/1 underdogs, while the draw is on offer at 13/5.
I like the way Forest play the game, and under Santo they are starting to express themselves more. They took the game to Manchester United and came away with three points, they like to attack and will cause problems for this Brentford defence. The Bees have scored in all of their last five matches and also conceded in them as well. The same can be said about Forest, they can score goals, but their defence can be a little shaky. Having Toney back is massive for Brentford and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets on the score sheet, but it will take more than one striker to get them out of trouble. That is why I am backing both teams to score with Forest taking the three points.
