Brentford play host to Chelsea this weekend for a very intriguing fixture and I think this fixture will be closer than what the bookies give it credit for. Brentford have opened up at 21/10 to take 3 points at home whilst Chelsea are just 23/20 to win on their visit to the Gtech Stadium and you can get 27/10 for the Draw.
Chelsea will definitely be the happier of the two teams and currently sit mid-table, but Brentford really need to find a performance this week as they have currently lost 5 of their last 6 league games. They have been playing decent enough football to make an impact here but they need to be switched on in defence for sure. I have a betting suggestion but let’s take a look at the teams first.
Brentford have been on a terrible run of results however they are playing good football in patches and they do have the firepower to cause Chelsea some problems. For this to happen though they will need to tighten up in defence because scoring doesn’t seem to be such an issue, but they are letting in plenty of goals which obviously isn’t helping their chances.
Chelsea may not be having the best season but their away form has been very strong and they could still be good enough to take all 3 points here. They do however have a similar problem to Brentford in the sense that they are scoring, but also letting in too many goals and this is ultimately why Chelsea are down in 11th in the league this season. They should have enough to win here, but they are going to need to be on song for sure.
Now even though Chelsea are favourites to win away from home this weekend, Brentford have the better recent record between the two teams having won 3 of the last 4 meetings. In these 4 games Chelsea have only scored one goal and the last two results went Brentford's way, both games finishing 2-0. So even though on paper you may think Chelsea are the worthy favourites, the recent records between the two would say otherwise.
This is a really interesting game because neither team is coming into this with good form and both are seemingly lacking confidence of late, but with the previous records between these two sides, I think Chelsea could be worth taking on this weekend. The question is can Brentford outscore them and take all three points or will they have to settle for a draw? It’s a difficult one to figure out.
Now that I’ve taken a look at both teams on paper and the credentials they both offer, I am definitely going to take on Chelsea at 23/20 because they have been far from convincing of late and that price is skinny based on their recent form. Brentford are playing well up front and have a solid record against Chelsea and I can see them getting something out of this game. I am going to use the outright market to make my prediction.
I think this future could turn out to be a belter but it is a hard one to figure out. After taking a look at both teams, I do find it hard to back Chelsea at such a short price away from home against a team that has beaten them in their last two encounters. Chelsea do play some creative football but they are limited with options up front and this wouldn’t fill you with confidence going into the game at such a short price.
Brentford play some good football and score plenty, but ultimately struggle in defence and that is where it’s hard to make a case for them winning this game despite their good record previously against Chelsea. I think this game is going to finish in a draw, I can just see both sides cancelling each other out and sharing the points this weekend.
