Monday Night's live action comes from the South Coast as European chasing Brighton host mid-table Wolverhampton. With Brighton afforded a rare 16 day break, Roberto De Zerbi will be relishing the chance to move up to seventh but faces tough resilience against a Wolves side unbeaten in five, winning their last three league games. Read our preview and best bets for Monday's game.
Roberto De Zerbi has been cursed with injuries this year, with many big name players missing months of action with injuries. However, with a 16 day break, the Italian is able to rest his stretched squad, welcoming back a few players back to training.
After a historic campaign last season that saw the Seagulls qualify for European football for their first time in their 122 year history, Brighton have continued on that trajectory, currently sitting eighth despite an abundance of injuries.
Albion are unbeaten in their last eight home games, winning four and drawing four in the process, so can take real encouragement heading into this affair. The AMEX is never short of entertainment, with BTTS landing in all 10 home league games thus far.
Despite being tipped by many as an outside bet for relegation, Wolves sit just three places and three points off Monday's hosts, having enjoyed a respectable campaign after a tumultuous summer that saw them lose star man Ruben Neves and manager Julen Lopetegui.
The Wanderers are looking to win four consecutive top flight matches for first time in over 50 years but have a big task on their hand. Away from home, Wolves games have been entertaining, seeing an average of 3.1 goals per game.
With tip scorer Hee-Chan-Hwang on Asia Cup duty with South Korea, the attacking impetus will be on Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha who has six goals in 20 matches.
This has been a fixture Wolves have dreaded over the last few years. In the reverse fixture, Brighton romped to a 4-1 victory thanks to three goals in nine second half minutes. Brighton also completed the double over Monday's opponents last season, winning 2-3 at the Molineux thanks to a late Pascal Groß winner, before being dispatched 6-0 at the AMEX by a rotated Brighton side in April. In fact, Brighton have won the last four meetings, scoring 16 goals in the process.
As mentioned, this has been a fixture Brighton have dominated over the last few meetings, winning the last four. They have been entertaining games, with six of the last seven meetings seeing at least seven goals. It has also been an eventful fixture for returning captain Lewis Dunk, who has five yellows, two goals and one red in his last fifteen against Wolves.
We are set for a cracking game between two entertaining sides. The bookies are siding with Brighton and I fully expect them to win too. However, there should be plenty of goals. Brighton home games average 3.6 goals, with Wolves seeing 3.1. Over 2.5 goals has landed in 7/10 home games for the Seagulls and 7/10 away for Wolves.
Brighton have only lost five of their 20 Premier League games thus far. These came away at Manchester City, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea who are second, third, fourth and ninth respectively and at home to West Ham who are sixth. They are yet to lose to a bottom half side and are hoping to continue this trend.
On the other hand, Wolves 10 away points have come against Everton (12th without deductions), Luton (18th), Bournemouth (12th- pre upturn in form) and Brentford (14th).
While Wolves have defied expectations thus far, they face a big test and one they may not be able to overcome.
