Just when it seems like Chelsea are getting their act together to mount a charge up the ladder, they come crashing down to earth with a bang. A woeful display at the weekend saw them hammered 4-1 at Newcastle United, and they will need to be fully switched on this Sunday. Brighton continues to surpass everyone's expectations. They seem to be forced to sell their best players every transfer window, but they are once again fighting for a place in Europe. The Seagulls travel to Stamford Bridge in eighth place - six points and two spots ahead of the Blues - as they look to keep the pressure on the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea looked like they were hitting their straps under Mauricio Pochettino after an impressive win over Tottenham Hotspur and a thrilling draw with Premier League champions Man City. They failed to back those results up as they were beaten away at Newcastle United in a game which saw captain Reece James sent off in the second half.

England international James will be suspended for this clash at Stamford Bridge, while the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chillwell, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana are still on the sidelines. Chelsea have not won at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League since they beat Luton Town back in August. In fact, that is there only win at home. They have drawn three matches in front of their own supporters in the Premier League this season.

Brighton continue to occupy a spot in the top half of the Premier League as they look to secure a European place for the second season in succession. The Seagulls are currently unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches. Their away form in recent weeks has seen them win one and draw two in their last three Premier League matches. Brighton have managed three wins on the road this season with their most famous one being a 3-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in September.

Brighton have injury concerns themselves with Danny Welbeck, Solly March and Tariq Lamptey all injured, while Lewis Dunk and Mahmoud Dahoud will sit this one out through suspension.

Overall, Chelsea and Brighton have met 16 times with the Blues winning eight of them and Brighton taking the spoils on just three occasions. Chelsea have won five of their matches on home soil, while Brighton's only away win against Chelsea took place last season when Welbeck and Julio Enciso scored to help them come from behind to win 2-1.

Matches between Chelsea and Brighton have ended in a draw on five separate occasions with three of them at Stamford Bridge. These two last met in a competitive match back in September in the Carabao Cup when Nicolas Jackson scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Chelsea.
