Chelsea's Champions League charge looks set to continue this weekend when they welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge. The message is clear for Enzo Maresca's men: win their next two matches and Chelsea are guaranteed a top five finish and that all important return to the Champions League.
Chelsea given another chance
Although Chelsea lost 2-0 against Newcastle, Nottingham Forest dropped points against Leicester, keeping them within the top five. However, with Aston Villa breathing down their necks, Chelsea must look to get maximum points from their last two games if they are to secure Champions League football.
They will have to do it without Nicolas Jackson who was sent off in their defeat against Newcastle, but having won their last three home matches, Chelsea should be confident they can at least take it until the final day of the season.
With the joint 3rd best home form in the Premier League this campaign, coming up against an unrecognisable Man United team, Chelsea won't get a better opportunity to add three valuable points to their tally.
Red Devils are in dire form
What is left to say about Man United? Another loss last weekend - this time against West Ham at home - may see them finish the Premier League campaign in 16th. Man United have been poor for some time, but to potentially finish just two places above the relegation zone is difficult for the millenial to get their head around.
Although they find themselves in the Europa League against Spurs, they'll be desperate for the season to come to a close - regroup and see who they can bring in during the summer to rectify their problems.
With the focus on the Europa League final, Chelsea may even get to face a slightly rotated side.
Chelsea head into this fixture having only won one of their last five matches against Man United across all competitions. They drew earlier in the season 1-1, where Moises Caicedo's 74th minute strike rescued a point after Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot.
To make it a little more intriguing this weekend, Chelsea have only one won of their last five matches at Stamford Bridge against Man United. In fact, last year's 4-3 loss - where Chelsea miraculously scored two goals to win the match deep into added time - they haven't beaten the Red Devils since 2018 at Stamford Bridge.
Is this a sign? Or are the visitors too poor at present?
With Chelsea crawling towards the Champions League, and with Man United's full attention on the Europa League, this looks an intriguing match - and one that might appear difficult to call. But the trends are hard to dismiss, and there could be some more twists along the way.
Chelsea to win: just
Can Chelsea get over the line? Facing Manchester United and then Nottingham Forest makes it a difficult question to answer.
The Red Devils continue to blow hot and cold - and while they have lost four of their last 10 away matches, they've performed well on the road in the Europa League - and their strong record at Stamford Bridge is hard to completely ignore.
Chelsea were poor against Newcastle, but having previously beaten the champions 3-1 back at the Bridge, it would take a brave person to believe Man United could leave with all three points.
The fact Man United have Spurs in the final five days after this match indicates Ruben Amorim will rest his best players - or at least limit their minutes - which hands the advantage to Chelsea.
If Chelsea win, they take it to the final day, and that is a big enough incentive for Maresca - especially if he wants to keep his job. It might be tense, but Chelsea can get over the line - even if the visitors cause them a problem or two.
With Chelsea's price so short - I'm advising bet365's bet builder to back Chelsea to win and under 4.5 goals at 3/4. Good luck if you're following.
