Chelsea's catastrophic pre-season will have raised plenty of eyebrows ahead of their curtain raiser, only beating Club America out of their six matches. Enzo Maresca has plenty to win over and if he doesn't do that quickly, we all know what happens at Stamford Bridge if you don't deliver quickly.
Pep Guardiola's side are eyeing up a history breaking fifth Premier League title in a row, and although their pre-season saw several defeats, a 4-2 win over Chelsea in the US was a good omen. City have already collected their first title of the campaign beating Man United to lift the Community Shield.
Last campaign Man City edged past Chelsea on home soil 1-0, but at the Bridge they delivered arguably the best game of the season with a 4-4 draw. Cole Palmer was Chelsea's hero on that occasion, but he's going to have to do it all again if he is to keep Man City at bay.
Chelsea finished a staggering 28 points behind Guardiola's team last campaign, and shipping goals for fun in pre-season certainly isn't going to close the gap any time soon. Under a new manager and with a host of signings, there may be some adjustment period for the hosts going into the Premier League campaign.
Manchester City scored an incredible 96 goals last season, while Chelsea conceded 63 of their own. Erling Haaland scored a hattrick against their first opponents in the US and the Norwegian will be keen to get on the board nice and early at the Bridge on Sunday. Well rested after a summer with no international tournament, few would back against him hitting the ground running as he has in each of the past two seasons.
There's no surprise to see Man City odds-on to win at Stamford Bridge against a leaky Chelsea defence, but they aren't as short as expected. With that in mind, it makes sense to side with Guardiola's team to start their campaign with three points.
Man City scored four against Chelsea in their own backyard last season but were still unable to come out with all three points. However, they also put four past them in pre-season, and looked rather comfortable in doing so.
Not many have been impressed with Chelsea's defending during the off-season, and their players seem to need more time to adapt to Maresca's demands.
While one team are finding their feet after a less than impressive pre-season, Man City look ready to secure yet another title before Guardiola bids farewell in May.
Admittedly, Man City are a short price to win, but 5/6 is still very much appealing as there is a clearly sizable gap between these two sides. If this was to be played at the Etihad, Man City would be closer to 1/2. Back Man City to claim all three points with bet365 this Sunday afternoon.
