It has not been a great season for Chelsea under manager Mauricio Pochettino, and if they are not careful, they could end the campaign in the bottom half of the table.

Newcastle United have failed to kick on from last season where they finished in fourth and qualified for the Champions League. They are still a top-half team, but many excepted more this season.

Even if Chelsea are not challenging for honours, you still expect them to be pushing for a place in Europe. This season has not gone according to plan for the Blues and Pochettino.

Fans are upset with what they are paying to watch week-in, week-out and have even questioned the commitment of some of their star players.

The Blues have not picked up three points at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League since they beat rivals Fulham on January 13. Since then, they have won one from five with two defeats and two draws.

Their last win was against Crystal Palace, and they held Manchester City to a draw before picking up another point against Brentford.

Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill will miss the game against the Magpies through injury, while Conor Gallagher is a doubt through illness.

Last season was special for Newcastle as they qualified for the Champions League. Many of their supporters thought that was the start of something special, but they crashed out in the group stages, and it looks like they will not be at the top table next season.

They could still qualify for Europe in terms of the Europa League or the Europa Conference League, but that would still be seen as a failure to some degree based on last term.

The Magpies have won two of their last five matches in the league and their last trip to London saw them hammered by Arsenal 4-1.

Kieran Trippier has been ruled out with a calf problem, while Joelinton, Nick Pope and Callum Wilson have still not been cleared to return to action.

Chelsea have won 65 of their 151 matches against Newcastle United with 44 of them coming on home soil. They have met at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League 28 times and Chelsea have only tasted defeat once.

That one league victory for Newcastle at Stamford Bridge took place in 2012 with Papiss Cisse scoring twice in a 2-0 success.

These two have met twice this season already. Newcastle won 4-1 at St James’ Park in the Premier League, while the Blues got a measure of revenge with a penalty shootout win in the League Cup in December.

Anthony Gordon seems to be a player who is only liked by his own supporters. Whether you agree with it or not, Gordon gets a lot of verbal abuse wherever he goes at the moment.

The lad is very talented, and that could be one of the reasons, but the main one is that he loves to get under the skin of everyone he comes into contact with, whether that be opposition players, coaches or supporters.

The more grief he gets, the better he plays. I expect him to be booed by Chelsea supporters, but I am backing him to rise above it and find the back of the night inside 90 minutes.
