The Premier League continues this weekend, with an exciting round of fixtures before we enter the international break. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important clash between Chelsea against Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s unbeaten start came to an end this weekend after being defeated by Manchester City. This defeat meant Chelsea lost their grip on first place whilst being surpassed by both Manchester City and Liverpool. Thomas Tuchel’s team is still a title contender and they will look to regain top spot against Southampton this weekend.
Chelsea is having a polarising experience with injuries currently. The Blues can be excited by the return of Mason Mount, who missed out at Manchester City. However, they will be without N’Golo Kante who contracted COVID and is set to begin his isolation. Jorginho is also a doubt and he has a 50% chance of featuring after getting a knock against Manchester City.
As for Southampton, they are on the opposite side of the Premier League table. The Saints continued their dismal start to 2021 after being defeated by Wolves this past weekend. Raul Jimenez’s second-half goal left Southampton 16th in the table and without a victory.
Alongside their winless start, Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side do have some injuries to contend with. Both Stuart Armstrong and Jack Stephens are ruled out for the weekend due to injuries to their calf and knee injury respectively.
Southampton have a decent record when facing Chelsea. The two sides couldn’t be separated in either fixture last season - both games ending all square. This included a thrilling 3-3 at Stamford Bridge when Vestegaard nodded home a 92nd minute equaliser for the Saints.
Alongside last season's impressive draws, Southampton have a good record in recent years when playing at The Bridge. They haven’t been defeated in their last four visits to London. However, Chelsea look a very different force this campaign and they are yet to be beaten at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
Southampton has a tendency to draw this year, four in six games, but we think Chelsea will get the better of Hassenhuttl’s side in front of their home fans. However, it should be a tight affair due to Southampton’s record against the Blues
We’re predicting Chelsea to win and under 3.5 goals with 888Sport at 21/20.
